While obtaining a BA degree from Johns Hopkins University, I was inducted into the honor society Alpha Sigma Lambda, and president from 2000-2002. I have taught a few weapons classes and use of force classes as a security forces member in the Air Force. However, I have never taught classes on a regular basis.
As a supervisor and trainer in the military, it was my responsibility to train the new individuals that came into the job. There was a lot of studying material that I constantly had to sit down and go over with them. We made flashcards, took notes, made up quizzes, did verbal question and answers, etc. I actually used to tutor math in High School when I was in an advanced Calculus class and have helped many friends with their college math. As a grad student, I am writing lots of essays which has really helped me with my English skills. I have a lot of academic experience that I would love to utilize while tutoring.

I would say that my teaching style is very interactive. Anyone can give instructions but I love feedback from a one on one situation as well as a group environment. I base alot of my instruction on analogies; when a person can relate an experience or another word to a term being tought, their understanding is broadened and 99% of the time embedded in the longterm memory. That to me is not only developing the ability to draw on a built up knowledge base, but also broadens ones ability to convey what has been learned.

As an undergraduate, a professor in the Psychology department recruited me to be a teaching assistant in Statistics after she found me freely tutoring my classmates in the lobby (I'd also earned an A grade in her course). I was just a sophomore at the time, and was able to hone my tutoring skills over the next two years in both Statistics and Psychology. In 2006 I received the Sibley English Composition prize from my school, and I have a passion for writing in addition to the subjects mentioned above. My teaching style emphasizes the differences between children, especially with regards to learning styles. Different children comprehend and understand in unique ways - while one may understand best from tactile or visual demonstrations, others learn best simply by hearing. Even within the same student, certain concepts are best understood in atypical ways.
