Teaching with Success in Mind!

I have been an educator for the past 8 years, serving as an elementary teacher, middle and high school teacher, and ESL teacher. I have also taught online and in a tutoring company. I am a big believer in individualized instruction, and I think tutoring is one of the best ways for a student to learn. I have some unique teaching experiences in international schools in Macedonia, and I have also taught in Thailand and the U.S. I am passionate about learning and I love seeing my students succeed in their own academic/language endeavors!
I individualize instruction based on the student's goals, learning styles, and age. I love to learn and so try to make learning as fun as possible for my students.

A Little Bit About Me...

I use a constructivist approach to teaching with engaging lessons using real-world situations as a foundation. Learning can be applied to the interest of the individual student to exhibit mastery of the standards required at each level. All students learn differently, so my first goal as an educator is to identify a student’s learning style(s) then plan lessons accordingly. I set high, yet reasonable, expectations for my students and they seldom fail to accomplish any task required of them.
As a professional educator, I have five years experience in working with both adolescents and adults in the public high school environment. I am currently an adjunct English instructor at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood, South Carolina. In both my undergraduate and graduate studies, the emphasis has always been on professional writing skills. In addition, I have extensive training ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience as a teacher/trainer/tutor/instructor is wide-reaching and diverse. From Sunday school to scientific and technical subject matter, my students have ranged from teenagers to corporate managers and directors. My passion for English started with the greatest high school English teacher the Southside of Chicago has ever known; Maceo T. Bowie. He was a role model for me and many others who had the fortune, or misfortune, of being in his classes. My greatest achievement was learning subject matter in German and then having my German students present this information to me in English only.
My teaching style is to insist on excellence in speaking, writing, and reading in English. I work with patience, but over a reasonable amount of time, constantly using the wrong tense will earn students a demerit on the class "OOP's" chart. This is a "fun" classroom tool but soon they begi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I'm very laid back and just enjoy being around children. Every child is different and has different interests and difficulties. One box does not fit all, and it's a matter of figuring out how to relate to the child at hand and make the subject matter appealing to them that I enjoy the most.
I spent 4 years in college teaching preschool, as well as 2 years as a high-needs reading tutor for the psych dept at my university. My degree is in journalism/English Lit and my GPA in Lit was a 3.7. I have three children of my own, and they are all avid readers, with my oldest reading 150+ books per school year. I'm well-aware of the current and classical children's literature out there, and taught both of my older children to read - at 5 and 3, respectively.

During my matriculation through college I have tutored students in various math and science subjects such as college algebra, trigonometry, calculus I & II, Physics, etc. I recently received a Bachelors in Mathematics at FVSU and in the process of obtaining my degree I have become well versed in many mathematical disciplines. I dont have any formal tutoring or teaching in English, Science, or Social Studies but I feel that I am competent enough from my collective studies from elementary school to college that I can assist in these subjects but Math is my specialty area.
I enjoy helping others and believe knowledge should be shared. I believe everyone can learn and proper guidance and understanding is all that is needed to achieve this. I am patient with my with whomever I tutor and dedicated to them as long as they're dedicated in our time together. I'm determined for them to a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with children in the public school system for thirty-four years as a classroom teacher, Title I augmented reading teacher and as a media specialist. Largely due to my years experience as a reading teacher my class of inner city children scored in the top one percentile on the Georgia Criterion Reference Test(GA CRCT) in Reading. I have always felt that if you give a child the wings to fly via reading and life long love of learning they can achieve whatever they desire in life, and I think I have been quite successful in this area.
My strongest area of expertise in teaching is reading. I have taught it for years. I have come to the conclusion through both personal experience, observation of other master teachers and through current educational research that it is most necessary to teach reading and math daily in a systematic manner while exposing the students to a le ... read more

I believe that every child has a natural desire and ability to learn. When I teach I focus on the students' interests and give them as much free choice as possible in order to encourage their natural sense of wonder and to maintain a warm environment. That said, I consistently expect high standards of achievement and behavior. I also endeavor to use different learning methods incorporating visual, auditory, and kinesthetic tools, which allow for the varied learning styles of different students.
My goal is to teach high school English. I have several years experience working with youth in teaching roles, including tutoring both math and english. For 11 months in Ecuador I taught English, Health, Phys. Ed., and career skills to elementary school working children and literacy to their parents. Other experiences include 6 weeks teaching project management and career skills to h ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been working with youth, especially "at-risk" youth, for over ten years now. I believe all children can become the best, but the individual has to be creative. I believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the proper experience as well as the appropriate surrounding to learn in. I am dedicated and in love with making a change in all my student's lives.
As an Georgia Southern Univesity graduate, I always had a passion for enabling our youth to become the best that they can be. I have earned a degree from Georgia Southern University, BS in Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and a minor in Sports Medicine and Kinesiology. I am also persuing a masters in Sports and Management and recreation. I have extensive science skills and math skills due to me currently teaching math and also teaching biology in my prior years. One of the most difficult challenges in high-need schools is how to engage them to study. Based on my experience, children in low-income communities are more concerned of earning a living. Furthermore, they approach life on day to day basis rather on a long term approach. Using this knowledge, I would like to show to the students how education can be used as a step in improving one’s status in life. A high-need school will certainly be filled with personalities. My experience allowed me to develop my teaching methods depending on the type of students.
Before going to college, I thought hard on what course I should take. As a child, I really enjoyed working with other people and sharing what I know with others. This is one of the reasons why I considered teaching as a job. After completing my Undergraduate education I went on to pursue a degree in medicine, because I had always been ... read more

I love working with children of all ages, and like combining education with fun. I am a thoughtful, creative, and patient teacher, and like to encourage children to approach problems and questions in their own way, frequently with examples and projects that will better illustrate a subject area. I feel I have many unique skills and attributes to offer your program. Raised in a multi-cultural environment, I am bilingual in Italian, fluent in Spanish, and proficient in French and Portuguese.
