I enjoy tutoring students of all grade levels. One of the most rewarding opportunities I had was to hold a position as a Boy Scout Leader and also my position as a High School Math and English tutor. I believe in teaching techniques that focus on what type of learner the student is. Many people have different teaching skills and techniques. I do not believe any technique to educate a child is better than any other technique. Each child learns differently. Understanding the fact that children learn differently is crucial. The teacher must be able to adapt to the child's learning style. I believe I have the ability to use an array of teaching styles to help children. I would enjoy the opportunity to help children learn.
As a student at the University of Detroit Mercy, I worked as a tutor for two years. I helped other students struggling in mathematics and biology classes. Also, my senior year in college I worked as a Teaching Assistant for a Microbiolgy lab. In addition, I did student teaching for a Catholic Middle School.

After graduating from DePauw University, my first teaching experience was at Rose Elementary Open School, which is a Detroit Public School. I was a building substitute. I worked there for one year until I found a regular postion at a public school academy in Inkster, MI. I was moved around in the system because they hired too many teachers. I found my permenant teaching position at Aisha Shule, an African-centered public school academy, where I have been teaching for at least six years now. I have taught Kindergarten to 5th grade at Aisha Shule, but I have spent the most time teaching in my 2nd-3rd grade split.

Florida Writes is an assessment of writing proficiency which incorporates the assessment of higher order skills, since students are required to generate and develop the ideas that form the basis for their written responses. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible.
