I am what you might call a camp kid. I grew up spending summers in the mountains, camping and hiking and when I grew older, working. The foundation of my leadership experience was built in the forrest. For six summers I worked as an outdoor educator and adventure guide, leading groups of students through week long trips into the natural world. I believe in experience as the greatest teacher. Students are empowered when they learn from their experience and begin to flourish in themselves. At university, my enthusiasm for the outdoors lead me to the arts. I took a particular interest in poetry and short stories and immersed myself in literary life at UCSD. I was often asked to facilitate writing workshops and discussion groups, and in doing so I've found tutoring to come quite naturally to me.

Need Piano Lessons?

I am a 19 year old college student who is living in Murrieta for the next few summer months, and attends Cal State Fullerton. I have taken piano lessons for over 11 years now, and have a few years experience in teaching/tutoring in piano. My major concentration in college is Studio Art, and have also had experience in teaching art classes through M.A.D. Studio. Through experience in college and high school, I am also very familiar with Microsoft Office programs, and have helped those who are struggling in the newer editions of these MS programs.
My teaching style is not entirely concrete, for I feel that it depends on the maturity of the student and willingness to learn the subject at hand. I am very patient when I need to be, and my main goal is to simply make sure each student walks away knowing what they needed to learn.

More About This Tutor...

I have a very natural, relaxed teaching style. I nurture self-esteem and success. I believe that children are naturally creative, inquisitive, and avid learners. When they are nurtured, taught, and loving cared for and educated by adults in their lives, they soar to their greatest heights with enriched self esteem and excelling in knowledge of new tasks/skills based on their ability. I have always said that children are like sponges, they will absorb what they are able to comprehend at the time and a teacher must build on their successes. I always look for their “abilities” and then expand on them.

A Little Bit About Me...

I really enjoy teaching and working with children of all ages. I know that children can excel at anything and we all have different learning styles. Co-partnering with parents is critical to success in their child(ren) education. Everyone should have the opportunity to succeed and should be provided the tools and the means to do so. I firmly believe this. Encouragement and enrichment is important. Not to mention a nurturing environment. I greatly feel that my job in life is help with passing on my knowledge to help others.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a native of Guam, I traveled extensively throughout Asia and the Pacific prior to moving to the U.S. mainland to pursue my bachelor's at the University of California. Moreover, my high school instituted an International Baccalaureate curriculum - which emphasized an international perspective and community service - during my junior year. As such, I approached my studies at UC Berkeley from a multi-cultural point of view, which coincided with an increased emphasis on multi-culturalism in the curriculum at my university. I also obtained a minor in French literature and spent a summer studying French language and literature at the Sorbonne.
I am an enthusiastic student and love to encourage my students' intellectual curiosity. I believe all children can learn, and I like to work with children to determine the best way that they learn. I am patient, I listen carefully, and I motivat ... read more

Straight out of college, I began substitute teaching and then tutoring individuals. I specialized in English, reading skills, history, psychology, and counseling. Now, I'm a computer tutor, a technical writer on contract, and gone through countless hours on training for these skills, and am now considering a second career as a teacher for non native speakers, for career and computer coursework, and always for writing skills, particularly technical writing. I wrote a book recently called Job Shark, to help people look for jobs, and I'm always amazed at how intimidated people are by computers and technology.
Personally, I prefer hands on - lab style workshops - than endless lecturing and note taking. I like to grasp the student's maturity level and aptitude and go from there. All students need individualized attention, but it is also important to have team building skills inherent in ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a recent graduate from University of California- Santa Barbara, I am eager to put my acquired skills and knowledge to use. I have earned a bachelor's degree in Global and International studies with an emphasis in Latin America, which has provided me with the opportunity to understand many different cultures and value the importance of education. I find the most useful way to instill knowledge is to reach that place where the student sees practical value in what he or she is learning. I always knew when the moment hit by the expressions on my students' faces. The students I taught were majoring in art and culinary skills, mostly. Consequently they saw little practical value in learning composition or understanding prepositions. I strived to help my students put theoretical classroom knowledge into context for the working world they would discover upon graduation. I believe in making abstract concepts become concrete applications that students can utilize in many areas of their lives.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a student at the university of Alabama, I was expected to complete my coursework and a book-length manuscript to satisfy the requirements necessary to graduate and complete the program. As an instructor, I was expected to teach two courses of English Composition each semester, 25 students per class. I was in charge of constructing the syllabus, developing a reading list, and carrying out the coursework as defined in the university graduate instructor handbook, while creating a safe and professional environment to enhance the students' learning experience.
As an instructor, I preferred to set up a weekly system, so the students would know what to expect and what was due every time they walked in the door. I would start class with a free write to focus the students; then move to a lecture to support their assignments; next, I would have them break into groups to discuss the lectur ... read more
