A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is tailored to the individual. The first thing I do when I'm trying to teach someone something is determine their learning style. If they don't know it I help them figure it out. I do find that most people learn best by diving in and doing it themselves first, while I serve as a "safety net". Whenever I was teaching new helmsmen or junior officers how to steer survey lines, I would direct them how to do it the first few times, and then when they felt ready to try it themselves, I stood back and let them, not stepping in until the absolute last second. Letting them make and try to correct their own mistakes seemed to be the best teaching tool I had.

I also volunteered for 2 years mentoring underprivileged Junior HS students. I continued to teach and tutor when I entered grad school. I received two TA positions, one teaching general biology labs and another teaching anatomy and physiology labs. In my second year of graduate school, I worked at a science and math magnet school for HS students, managing student projects in the animal labs. A Little Bit About Me...

I love learning and understanding new concepts and ideas. So while attending Emory & Henry college I was excited about tutoring at the local school to help Children gain a better grasp on the things they were learning in class. After graduating with Bachelors degrees in Math and Physics, I wanted to continue to learn more and keep passing on what I had learned to others.
