Special Education is one of my top subjects! I have been a Special Education Teacher for 4 years at the pre-k level working with students 3-5 years old with various disabilities.

For the last 4 years I have taught Special Education at the pre-k level. My classes consist of students with disabilities, as well as students without disabilities. Over the last four years I have had the opportunity to work with students with various disabilities including: Autism, Traumatic brain injuries, ADD and ADHD, Down Syndrome and learning disabilities.
I can adapt my teaching style to the learning style of the student. I believe that interactive and hands on activities benefit students with disabilities because they are learning through doing, rather than simply being told.

As a seasoned teacher, I find that appealing to each of the teaching styles is essential. Individually or in combination; visual, auditory, kinesthetic and tactile teaching styles are necessary for all of us to learn successfully, whether it be in a classroom of multiple learning needs students or just tutoring one student; be it one child, an adolescent, or an adult. The goal for the teacher is to assist the student in achieving a sense of success, while making learning enjoyable. Having reached success in a task, the learner feels a greater sense of self-worth.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in mentoring. It does take a few times for the student (young and old) to understand that I cannot teach them anything. I can present information to them and attempt to inspire them to learn, but they are the ones who ultimately teach themselves. I very much enjoy helping them figure out the answers to their own problems. My motto: It is my job to help you not need me anymore!

A Little Bit About Me...

When helping others, I do it two ways. I tell them how to do it and guide them through it. Other times, I show them how to do it. However, I do not do it for them. I would love to have the chance to help children succeed in their education! It would be an honor!

A Little Bit About Me...

All children are capable of learning. I believe that it is a developmental process. I also believe it is a scaffolding process in which we must build upon the skills that have been taught previously. If a student missed a skill, it is difficult to build upon it. Sometimes we must go back and re-teach that skill. Unfortunately that doesn't happen enough in our education system because there is not enough time or teachers for that to happen. But, if we can find where the student missed or misunderstood a skill and help them to achieve that skill, all the other skills we build upon then will come at a much easier rate for the student! The ultimate goal for me or any other teacher is to help the student to find success.
I have been working with learning disabled students in a resource room setting as well as in inclusive classrooms in a push-in situation for fifteen years. I am ... read more

I like to use different methods to help students learn. I am a hands-on teacher who believes in having students discover their own successful learning styles. Students learn the best by doing, so, I try to let them figure things out while guiding them through instead of having them memorize rote information. Learning becomes permanent only when it is understood. I am a firm believer in Life-Long Learning.
I have been an educator for 24 years. I have never thought about doing anything else because I love teaching. Compasionate and understanding. I like to approach the root cause of the problem. All children have the ability to learn, however not all people have the ability to learn using the cookie cutter approach that most schools use. Patience is one of my key attributes. Understanding the child is key to success as a teacher, and I try to follow that rule at all times. I also believe that organization and routine help continue good study habits into the future. I look forward to working with you and your children!
