A Little Bit About Me...

As a mechanical engineering graduate from Penn State, I have vast experience with the principles of physics and mathematics. As a junior and senior in high school I tutored students in algebra and trigonometry. In college I tutored students in my own physics classes as well as volunteering my time as a tutor for engineering students in statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, basic electrical circuits, and heat transfer. Originally trained as a teacher of Drama and English, I subsequently spent many years working in the theatre, not only in educational situations but also as an actor, director and writer. I am now semi-retired, but still enjoy working as a teacher, and I currently teach animation and drama. I would welcome the opportunity to do some tutoring in language skills.
I have always found that the first and often most important thing a teacher can do is find the obstacles to learning that we all suffer from and seek ways to remove them. These may be the so called "blocks" that may develop after negative early experiences, preconceptions about the subject, or simply lack of confidence. Replacing resistance with enthusiasm and interest, and then providing expert guidance can then lead to acheivement.
