Part of my Teach For America Summer Institute required corps members to teach summer school at Houston ISD campuses, where I taught middle school math at Patrick Henry MS. I was hired by Harlingen HCISD for the 2014-2015 academic year at the Harlingen School of Health Professions as an Algebra I instructor. I have 16 years teaching elementary grades 1 through 3. During this time I taught Compensatory Education for 2 years in 1st grade, 4 years in 2nd grade and 1 year in third grade. In the Compensatory Education classes I would receive the poorest readers and worked with them throughout the school year. The 3rd grade Comp-Ed class all started as poor readers and ended the year by all passing the reading portion of the Texas TAAS test. I had a 1st grade class for 5 years and 2nd grade for 4 years. I also taught in Italy DoD Schools, taught basic skills to American GIs overseas, and I am currently a sustitute teacher for both Bastrop and Elgin ISDs. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style depends on the student and subject I'm dealing with. For the non-reading adults I started by teaching them letter recognition and basic sounds; moved on to simple words; then sentances. During my college class I would review the evening's lesson and goals, then have the students perform the exercise in the textbooks. During the practical exercise I made myself available to all the students and gave one-on-one instruction to those that needed it.
I taught all subjects for adult learners preparing for the GED tests through Region IX Education Services Center's Adult Education program for 4 years in the evenings.
