I tend to prefer a Socratic method of teaching where the student discovers the answer through discussion, reading and research. I will use direct instruction on occassion when the need arises but my classroom is typically humming with group work and whole class discussions.
I have been teaching social studies in Cabarrus County for the past 12 years. I am nationally board certified and have my AP certification in World History. This summer I will be receiving my IB training and will begin teaching AP world history in the IB classroom. Passionate about learning.

My teaching style is based on reading then reviewing. At that point in time ask questions to see if the student has grasped the information being given. If not, answer questions then clarify. When reviewing information it is important to make sure the student knows reasoning behind subject matter so that they are understanding logic and not just memorizing information. In subjects that invloves math such as probability, chemistry, or statistics, I would do a few examples followed by letting the tutee working a few problems.

Teaching is an art that needs to be perfected based on each individual child’s needs.
