A Little Bit About Me...

One needs to be patient, calm, listening but firm when working with children, qualities that I have developed throughout years of experience. I used to tutor students as a part time activity, having a participative approach, as all children have different ways of learning. For that I use parallels and substitutions so as to drive the students to the answers. I do believe that every children can learn, provided they are taught their own way. My goal is to find those ways.
I have earned a bachelor degree in microbiolgy with a minor in medical laboratory technology which has enabled me to gain an understanding in many areas of biology. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style with my own children is conversational, hands-on, and intuitive. I explore what most captures their attention, then weave in the lessons by using any available teaching aids, such as whiteboard drawings, to illustrate a point, literally.
My German parents spoke (so-called "high", or proper) German at home in NY/NJ, which came in handy after we moved overseas when I was 13. Repeating 7th grade, I learned to read and write German fluently, as well as master the local dialects and sundry colloquialisms without a lingering accent. Doing so allowed me mask my heritage, enroll in higher education, and learn a trade, culminating in a long and rewarding all-encompassing painting career abroad and in the eastern US, before settling in Texas to explore telecommunications. I widely regard the world as a large classroom/laboratory.

More About This Tutor...

I use all methods of second language acquisition in my teaching. Most of the exercises I use to help beginning are communicative methods. It's better to get them speaking and writing and build their confidence than to just use rote memorization or drills. If I think the audio-lingual method will help a more advanced student, I suggest and practice this method with them. If reading in the language with the translation side by side helps, we will practice that. I bear all forms of cognitive learning in mind when tutoring a student. I strive to help in whatever way I can.
