Reading Comprehension is one of my top subjects!

I am a former teacher with 24 years' experience in the classroom. I have taught Georgia Pre K, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. My Master's in Reading and Literacy enabled me to elevate my Reading instruction. From personal experience with my own children, there seems to be very little differentiation or additional help in the higher grades, so I got my certification in English Language arts grades 6-12. My comments on tutoring Reading Comprehension : I teach the importance of highlighting important words, proofreading, and summarizing chapters in order to gain a better understanding of the book.

A teacher must care about people. It is not enough to have the knowledge of the material. You must be very aware of body language and read the group to determine if you need to restate the concept. A good teacher will ask a question and will not answer until a group discussion occurs. A good teacher ensures the group feels comfortable to think outside the box withou fear of embarrassment. Use of several medias in addition to course material is key to keep the attention of the group. However, again, none of this is effective if you do not have a genuine desire to see the knowledge you have of the material transferred to the individuals receiving the message.
