I think the most useful tutor emphasizes critical thinking. I have noticed that many students focus on memorization instead of really understanding the processes behind science, math, and foreign languages. I try to focus on how and why things are, rather than just the fact that they are. I believe that this approach provides students with a deep understanding of the material and an ability to problem-solve on their own. They can then develop better comprehension, and tend to be more interested in learning.
I graduated with my undergraduate degree in marine biology in 2002 and then worked as a research biologist for two and a half years before returning to school to pursue my master’s degree. I love teaching children of all ages. I believe that everyone should have equal opportunities in acquiring a good education. My opinion is that all children do not learn in the same ways. Thus, some children may require additional assistance, such as tutoring. I believe that in these cases, children should be in a one-on-one learning atmosphere with their tutor, so that they get the right amount of time, patience, understanding, and attention needed to help them.
I have studied Spanish for over ten years and German for over five years. I have a BA from UCF in foreign language combination. I was a teacher's assistant for a second grade class in 1990 at Winegard Elementary School. I was a hearing-impaired interpreter at a YMCA youth camp for one week in 1990 at Tallahassee.
