I have graduated from two major universities and will attend medical school at Nova Southeastern University in August 2011. I have just recently graduated from USF College of Medicine with a Master’s degree in Medical Sciences and hold a degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Illinois. I have extensive research experience in bioinformatics from the University of Illinois. I have one year experience tutoring in the underprivileged area of Urbana, Illinois; at Garden Hills Elementary I tutored kids from 3rd and 5th grade classes who had fallen behind the scheduled lesson plan. I have a great deal of experience training fellow employees and have devised the system of show them once, let them do it once while talking them through it, and then let them do it once without assistance. This system also translates to teaching. The last step is the most important; it forces the student to think for him or herself and instills confidence that the problem is not beyond his or her level of understanding. It is very important to teach students how to figure things out for themselves – probably the most important lesson I learned at UVa. If a child knows how to utilize resources such as the textbook, example problems, and the internet, then he or she will be able to work independently through a tough problem.
