Phonics and help for dyslexic students

While homeschooling my boys, I invented new ways to teach them to read. These methods turned out to be helpful to many students. I've taught children how to read for about 5 years. I wrote a series of books to give teachers methods to teach phonics in creative ways, published through Creative Teaching Press. I've published mountains of curriculum. Formerly, I was the editor for the weekly education section for the "Denver Post." Now I am especially interested in helping children who have reading problems, particularly those who have or may have dyslexia.
Hands-on, creative, active, using senses to keep children involved, especially those with ADHD. Trained in the Orton-Gillingham method to use explicit, sequential, systematic, and comprehensive phonics, especially for children or adults with dyslexia.

My desire has always been to be a teacher. I enjoy working with children to reach their greatest potential. Everyone can learn but we may not all get there the same way or at the same time. Some children are not able to reach their potential in the classroom for many different reasons, they may need more individualized attention, they may be more visual, hands on, etc. Some children may just need more time.
I have a BA degree in Communications;Journalism. I have been substitute teaching for over 13 years. I have completed a Teacher Certification program and 2nd grade student teaching. As a substitute teacher I have held long term teaching assignments in 2nd grade, middle school reading, elementary special education, and high school. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy pretented not to know the work myself which allows them to help me. It helps me to see what they already know and to see how much I need to help them know. I use this approach to boost selfesteem in students.
I'm currently working for Huntsville City Schools Extended Day Program. I've been working there for 3 years. In those 3 years, I also worked in the work study program, working at the Richard Showers Center's after school program. While, at the Showers Center, I was placed with an ADHD and Dyslexic student. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in interactive learning. Students learn best when they are in a safe environment, which I can provide.
