I believe that listening is a key to helping a student succeed in a subject matter that may not come easily to them. Building on a child's strengths and trying to find a "way in" that makes sense to them is a good strategy. Using creativity and "outside the box" approaches to learning can help a child access their latent abilities. Writing is such a powerful tool, not only for self-expression but for changing the world and for success in many professions-- I try to highlight the importance of writing to students' lives whenever possible, to connect the writing process (and literature) to their passions and to get them excited about it.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have extensive experience in education in a variety of learning environments. I began my apprenticeship in academia as a peer tutor for the College of Santa Fe's Student Support Services/TRIO Program (program of academic support for first generation, low-income students and students with learning differences or physical disabilities). I tutored students in writing, biology, religion, philosophy, political science, literature, psychology, Spanish and cultural history. I worked with traditional-age college students and adult students, students with a range of learning styles, and students from diverse cultural backgrounds. A Little Bit About Me...

I have classroom experience at the elementary and secondary level. While working on my AA degree I worked at a high school in a Language Arts class. Earlier in my education process I worked in a 2nd grade and a 3rd/4th grade class. I worked as a sub at the middle and high school level. I have extensive knowledge in all Humanities subjects, especially writing skills. I can utilize a myriad of different methods to meet the learning needs of a diverse student population. I especially like to use methods my students can relate to or connect with their own lives.
