My comments on tutoring Continuing Education : I assume this topic covers areas needed in order to successfully enter an institute of higher learning, and/or to successfully pass Developmental level college courses. Having taught GED preparation (and coordinating a GED program I built from the ground up) for 17 years, I've come to realize the subject areas/levels needed to pass the above exam are the same ones needed to score well on, for instance, Sinclair's Accuplacer test. How well my students score(d) on their individual GED subject exams directly correlated to how well they did on the Accuplacer, which indicates college readiness & if/how many of three levels of Developmental courses may be required in reading comprehension, writing, and math. For instance, a student that scored a 410-440 on the GED math exam would make the "cut", but still have to take as many as three DEV Math classes. However, someone with a GED math score in the 440-480 range may only need two, a 490-540 scorer will probably still need one DEV, and a student scoring over a 550 would most likely not have to take any DEVs, and go straight into college math. The process is similar for Accuplacer's Reading (correlates with GED's rdg., science & soc. st.s scores) and Writing placement tests (unlike the GED, there's no combo. score of essay + multiple choice grammar questions, it's multiple choice only on the Accuplacer). Having explained the above, I would prepare a student attempting to enter college, especially one who's been away from school for awhile, by using much of the same basic curriculum I use for GED preparation. My GED students always did/do score so much better on college entry exams than someone WITH a high school diploma that's been away from school/studies for a couple years or decades!

Please contact me if you have one or more subjects to pass, especially if you earned all of your high school credits, but this test is keeping you from receiving YOUR diploma!! I take the necessary time to learn the behavior and learning ability of the child in order to customize a teaching style that will be most beneficial. I believe that the most effective type of relationship between a teacher and a student is friendship to reduce any anxieties that may otherwise hinder the child’s progress. I am calm, well mannered, kind and devoted to the success of others. Teachers should be firm but not intimidating to the child. The learning environment should be safe, stress free and comfortable and above all positive. I have a strong belief that since children will be leading future generations then they need the proper skills to be able to solve tomorrow’s problems.

I am a teacher who believes that children are only limited by their mindset. If it is truly a child's desire to learn, he will. Children choose to fail. My job as an educator is to make it difficult for a child to choose to fail. My lessons are typically innovative and evoke intrinsic motivation. I used a variety of tools for teaching and provide students with "along the way" incentives as a means of challenging them and rewarding them for achieving personal goals. My rapport with my students is excellent and because they usually appreciate and trust me, they perform well for me and eventually for themselves. I am a dedicated educator who is passionate about student success.

In teaching/tutoring, I have an ongoing teacher-student conversation that resembles a programmed unit. I talk mathematics from a tutor's point of view and expect the student to fill in the blanks in a way such that I've set him/her up. What it does is keep the student's attention since they've to answer my questions and "fill in my blanks". I love tutoring students of all ability levels as I show them the light at the end of the tunnel and that light eventually lights up their eyes and their faces! I love hearing my students say that can't believe this Algebra II is so easy or that he'd be failing this 7th math without my tutoring!
Since 1966, I have been teaching/tutoring students in all levels of mathematics. In 1977, I graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics Eduation. I consider myself a Mathematics teacher, substitute teacher(60 sch ... read more

I have a number of education courses completed from UD since I had started in the Elementary Education program there. As a Youth Minister I taught all age levels from sixth grade to seniors. I also taught training sessions for my adult volunteers. As a Sales Consultant part of my responsibilities was teaching program materials informational sessions to adults. While working at OIP&T as a Student Services Coordinator I taught two semesters of Communications and Psychology courses to the college students while an instructor took time off after her husband died.
I am an adaptable teacher. If I see that something is not getting through I will try a new angle to get the point across and am not afraid to try something to reach the students. My teaching style is customized to each student's needs. Because all students have different learning styles my instructions are patterned to maximize that student's particular style. After evaluating each student with a baseline test, goals and objectives based on the state's/district's curriculum are determined. My style is setting high but realistic expectations with rigorous assignments. I also try to have an overdose of encouragement and make the learning session fun time for students.
Teaching has been my last career change. My prior experience has been in the field of manufacturing, maintenance engineering services and construction management. I received an honors degree from Fairborn High School and Wright State University. Education has always been very important to me. While attending WSU for fine arts, I was reminded of my passion for teaching and decided to also acquire my art education certification. During my education program, I was placed in Xenia High School. I was also selected by the art education advisor as one of four students to take part in an innovative teaching class where I learned how to use art and music to teach science and math. I helped design and co-teach an art/math/music lesson to a 6th grade math class in Dayton Public Schools.
I understand that some children respond to teaching styles that others do not. I am patient and encouraging. I am trained to use innovative teaching techniques to help students better understand and remember challenging subjects. My fine art background allows me ... read more
