A Little Bit About Me...

Because I have always had passion for numbers and math I have earned two bachelor degrees, BS in Statistics and BS in Management from Brigham Young University. I am originally from Russia so while working on my degrees I taught the Russian language at the same school (Brigham Young University). For the last five years I was teaching, tutoring and consulting different people about the Russian language and statistics.

A Little Bit About Me...

I like the tutoring environment because I like seeing individual progress. It is easier to assess where the child is. I believe that the basics are essential to moving forward in education. Memorization of math facts makes it easier for a child to learn new material because he isn't bogged down. I don't believe enough emphasis is placed on arithmetic in today's schools. Basic arithmetic skills make story problems easier. Types of story problems need to be practiced, not just thrown in at the end of a chapter without much information on how to do it. I teach mostly by working through application examples so that students can see what is actually happening more easily than a bunch of abstract theory. I do go over the theory while with the examples and I find that if students can see theory in application it improves understanding of both.
I received 2 degrees at BYU in Actuarial Science and Comparative Literature. For 3 1/2 years I taught the entry level statistics class and was always among the highest rated teachers. I loved teaching the class and that is why I did it for so long. Most of my students would say my class was the only reason they passed the course or even showed up for it.
