While studying at the University of Oklahoma, I became interested in tutoring and helping those less fortunate. I began tutoring at a program called Tuesday Tutors which provides free-of-charge tutoring to all students Junior High level and above (although we often helped out Elementary students who stopped by). I also became active in ESL/Literacy tutoring. I tutored ESL for 7 months prior to graduating. I have now graduated with three Bachelor degrees and am now seeking a Master's in Philosophy. I still tutor whenever I get the chance and am currently helping an ADHD/Dyslexic student to boost his reading level.
I generally try to remain as friendly as possible with the tutee so that he/she can relax and learn in a comfortable environment. I work on a first-name basis and try to make sure that the student is LEARNING, rather than merely finishing his/her homework. I teach u ... read more

Although I am advanced as far as the subject areas I would be tutoring in are concerned, I am still able to present the content to the student in the unique way that they are able to understand it. This is important, since no two students think alike and, in my experience, a majority of students do have trouble with math and math-intensive sciences such as physics. But even though I am more comfortable with the one-on-one experience that tutoring usually involves, I do have classroom experience from substituting and various group-tutoring sessions.
As a Physics major I have a deep understanding of both mathematics and multiple fields of science. During my time as both a high school and college student I have tutored privately in subjects such as: Physics I and II; College Algebra, Calculus I, II and III; Differential Equations and many more upper-level physics and math courses. ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is a means to find a student's misconceptions and correct them. I try to do this by engaging the students in conversation, asking them leading questions, or watching them work. I try to build classroom bonds, making communication easier. Once the students feel comfortable, it is easier to get them to talk and share their actual thoughts and ideas (which might be brilliant or flawed).
After graduating with a 4.0 from the University of Oklahoma, I began my graduate work in mathematics. As a G.A., I had the experience of teaching and tutoring at the college level. During the past two years, I have taught 10 sections of miscellaneous classes, covering 5 different courses. Over the course of the past two years, I've easily had over a hundred hours of tutoring time. In addition to my two math degrees and minor in religious studies, I also have a good background in music t ... read more

After obtaining a Masters of Science with a Minor in Education, teaching has become my life pursuit. Even when working for a large Biotech firm, I have tutored for one year in public schools during my lunch hour. As the volunteer leader for our 500 person campus, I am proud to say I spear-pointed the adoption of our nearby high-needs school. Working in the field along with my education has given me a scientific, mathematic, and data analytical background. After working for 2 years obtaining industry experience I took 80 hours teaching pre-service training last June.
My personal philosophy embraces ownership, one of the top ingredients for successful learning. Personal ownership creates a more perceptive learning process. Students will be more willing to maintain their learning as they proceed throughout the year. Another way ownership makes a big academic difference is throu ... read more

I find it most rewarding and helpful to get to know the student and parents. This provides the assistance needed to develop the proper rapport and educational needs of the student ensuring parents stay involved. Interaction is a required form of instruction for any student so to understand and establish the roles of teacher and student. I truly believe that the confidence displayed while teaching will evidently be welcomed with receiving minds. One act of assurance can open a wide door of possibilities and recognized achievements. I have a bachelor's degree in acturial science and have studied extensively for acturarial exams. My studies have enabled me to master both higher- and lower-level mathematics and statistics. My background in paid tutoring includes College Algebra, Elementary statistics and statistical methods, but I've also helped classmates understand physics and chemistry classes. These classes came easy to me, and I feel I am a natural fit for tutoring these subjects as well. I don't have any experience teaching in a classroom, yet, but as of Aug. 18 I will begin teaching business statistics at Oklahoma State University part-time, while I work on my master's in statistics.

My teaching style is very much one of observation and tailoring lessons to fit the student best. I typically use one series of method books, but sometimes choose other repertoire outside of the curriculum in order to best teach the student in the area that they need. I have had students with Asperger's syndrome (a form of autism) and dyslexia.I have also taught all age groups, ranging from 4 years to 65 years. Whether I am chosen as a teacher by the student for academic reasons, to prepare for a talent show, or fulfill an entry on their bucket list, I strive to show true interest in their learning and provide the best explanations and most creative lessons I can.
