My old next door neighbors have two children. One is a boy in elementary and one is a girl in middle school. I tutored the boy in reading and writing. He was able to read his first book on his own after a few weeks with me. I had to tutor the girl in math. she was taking algebra and was having a tough time with it. In two weeks of many meetings, she was able to pass her final exam. No matter what grade I was in, I always enjoyed going down to the ESE room and helping the special kids. I did what ever I could to help.

I have taught for a total of 11 years. I taught in Prince George's Public schools for 5 years, Hyde Leadership Public Charter School in DC for 1 year, Avon Park High School for 2 years, Hardee Junior High for 1 year, and Bill Duncan Opportunity Center (alternative school) for 2 years. I have a Bachelor's in Biology and certifications in Math (5-9), Biology (6-12), and Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum (5-9). As an English Education major, I have had numerous encounters in the classroom with each of my classroom practicums. After completing my degree in the fall of 2009, I will have over three semesters of classroom experience, working with students from the sixth grade to the twelfth grade. My first work experience began with counseling Severely Emotionally Disturbed children and their families. In this capacity I worked with the schools in order to enable the students to see the value of education and to work through their personal problems in order to be successful in the school setting.
