My comments on tutoring Calculus I : I recently took this course so I have a fresh recollection of the material and can break it down in understandable terms.

I have four years of experience as a tutor that I obtained throughout my college experience. Tutoring is a personal joy of mine as I witness students who I've worked with succeed in their academics. It has been the most fulfilling job I've had, and I look forward to new experiences with students who desire to learn.
I do not consider myself a teacher but a helper. In my experience, the Socratic method in which I pose probing questions that unlock the student's knowledge is the strongest approach. A student's retention of the material is strongest when the student can teach it, and that's what I aim for. I break down any material the student doesn't understand into terms that are easier to comprehend. Preparedness is expected on the part of the student. I have taught and tutored since I was sixteen. I currently teach for USC, a few online universities, Syl. Learning Center, and am a Professional Writing Tutor. I have had two National Institute of Health fellowships in the past three years at the Medical University of South Carolina and Washington State University. I have also published research articles in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Journal of Natural Products and Tetrahedron letters and two more in the publication process. I do have a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Iowa in 2005 and a First Class BSc degree in chemistry from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. As a recent CofC graduate attaining my Bachelors of Science degree in Biology, I have a vast knowledge of Biology and Chemistry courses. I also attained minors in Chemistry and Psychology. In high school I completed Advanced Placement (AP) courses in Biology, English, and Calculus and placed out of 21 college credit hours. With this experience, I gained knowledge about the arrangment and expectations of these classes and examinations.
