Japanese is one of my top subjects!

I spent a year studying Japanese in the United States, before moving abroad to Japan and attending a Japanese university. There, though I did not take formal Japanese classes, I took classes taught in Japanese, and spent my days learning and interacting with native speakers. In addition, I self-study using various other resources.
Business casual-- Organized teaching without a serious atmosphere.

Fluent Japanese Tutor!

While I was living in Japan, I taught Japanese to non-Japanese speakers in both one-on-one situations and in groups. After arriving in the United States, I have continued to offer one-on-one and group lessons. I can especially relate to those that want to learn Japanese, since I struggled similarly as I learned English. The lessons that I taught ranged from 30 minutes to an hour, according to the preference of my students.
I focus on the four skills of a language when teaching - reading, writing, listening, and speaking. In addition to tapping into each of these areas when teaching, I also like to include cultural studies, since I am a firm believer that one can only become a master of a language if they have mastered that language's culture, as well. - Reading and Writing: I start teaching by focusing on romaji, which is Japanese spelled out using letters from the Roman alphabe ... read more

Japanese is one of my top subjects! Japan has always been close to my heart. I am a high beginner and can tutor with the basic hiragana, katakana and very basic kanji, as well as a bit of grammar and some vocabulary.

I believe that conversation is an essential part of language learning. After teaching some basic vocabulary and grammar, I like to encourage students to place their fear of making mistakes to the side and converse as much as they are able to in the target language. Depending on the age and experience of the student, I like to incorporate teaching materials such as books, worksheets, articles on the internet in the target language and listening exercises, as well as interpretation of song lyrics that the student might enjoy, describing art pieces in the target language and anything else that the student might find interesting. My style is pretty open and unrestricted. I am patient, kind and enjoy learning from my student as much as I enjoy tutoring them.
I am currently a student at the University of South Florida, seeking a Bachelor's degree in German Studies. I have some background ... read more

My comments on tutoring Japanese : While not fluent in Japanese, I have taken 3 years of high school level courses and am familiar with the expectations thereof. I have passed the kanji kentei through 8th kyuu and passed 9th with a perfect score.

I aim for all tutoring to be done in the target language, but I recognize that this is unhelpful for many students. Nevertheless, I will start out only using the target language, but will switch to the students' preferred language upon request.
I have tutored 1 student privately in Spanish for 2 years, and she went from failing her class to passing both the AP and IB exams with a 5 and a 6, respectively. I have also tutored small groups in Spanish for one semester ranging from high school introductory level to AP level. I have also tutored for one semester of ASL at the college level, and one semester of Japanese at the high school introductory level.

My comments on tutoring Japanese : I have taken classes in Japanese speech training in a technical college. After having MA, I taught the subjects as “Speech communication”, “Intercultural communication” and “Communication and manners at hospitality industries” at several universities and nursing colleges in Japan.

I am originally from Tokyo, Japan, and a native Japanese speaker. I have relocated from Japan to the United States and I am fluent in both Japanese and English. I specialize in teaching Japanese and intercultural communication. I have been a Japanese language teacher for foreign students since I was studying at a university in Japan. I was a private tutor for foreign students who aimed to enter colleges and universities in Japan for more than 10 years. I also have 7 years of experience working for Japan Airlines as a cabin attendant and went overseas in more than 30 countries, so I have abundant intercultural communication experiences with people worldwide. From those former experiences, I started to work as a service hospitality instructor for several hospitality industries such as airlines, restaurants, hotels, banks, hospitals and dental clinics, general trading companies ... read more

I have a strong background in science and math, giving me a passion for both subjects. I have always loved math, but when discovering a love for science, it seemed to be the perfect marriage for me to study chemistry. I earned a BS in Chemistry at USF and have also taught Chemistry to first year students my senior year giving me an edge on teaching. I have also taught martial arts to many students in the past, giving me an edge on being disciplined and understanding. I believe I am more than able to teach algebra, calculus, and science in your program. I also tutor Spanish.
I have been teaching martial arts since high school. I studied Wing Chun Kung Fu at an early age and later became my Sifu's helper in and out of class. I like to base my teaching like martial arts, teach the information by showing how its done, then use examples of it directly involving the student, and la ... read more

In high school, I was a member and officer in peer leadership. Our organization organized school events, attended clinics/workshops (brain damage/anti-violence), and tutored younger students. During my years at Ursinus College, I was a double major in International Relations and Child Psychology until my junior year, when I found it too difficult and almost impossible to graduate with both majors. I decided to focus on I.R. in my undergraduate years, planning to later attend graduate school for a master's in elementary education. For the past 6 months, I have been teaching English in South Korea.
I have been taught by a variety of teachers in my collegiate as well as high school and elementary years. Some of the most influencing teachers have been those who told me that as a teacher, one can never stop learning. So, when teaching children, I bring my own unique style, but I a ... read more

I attended the University of Florida where I earned a BS in Mathematics and took a heavy science course load to prepare me for further medical school prerequisites. I have established a solid understanding of the core sciences as well as an exemplary command of mathematics. In addition, I have had multiple experiences aiding foreign students improve English as their second language.
I have a passion for the reliability and order of involved in Mathematics. I have found that when broken down into a method that students can understand, math becomes much more manageable. If we interpret the nebulous vernacular of mathematics into simple English, most students will find it to be less difficult.

I love my students, put them first, and put developing rapport with them as a high priority. I maintain eye contact, smile, and speak respectfully. I make lesson plans in advance; however, I allow students some freedom in choosing the order of activities. When questions come up, I try to lead my students to an answer by asking questions in return. I provide regular testing to determine when they have mastered a concept and are ready to move on. I inspire my students to be confident and creative. Then they are motivated to improve academically. Here are some examples of my teaching style, taken from my teaching practicum through my college English Education program. My twelfth-grade honors class gave their teacher rave reviews when I substitute taught a lesson on Macbeth. The text was my guide, and I wanted my students to be guided by the text to new discoveries. Later, I led this class ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a teenager, I became an Eagle Scout and was a peer mentor (Big Bro./Big Sis.). I am an Earlham College graduate with a BA in Japanese Studies. After graduation I went on a study-abroad program to Japan and taught English to junior high students, and tutored elementary students in Japanese upon returning to the U.S. I was a counselor at a camp for teenage boys with behavior issues where I provided therapeutic action and wrote daily individualized reports. I have assisted in two classrooms and instructed P.E. at a Montessori school. I lead a classroom of lower elementary students (6-9 yo).
