A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style consists of finding that unique style that will suit each individual student. Growing up, I noticed that it was very hard for certain students to grasp certain concepts because they were not engaged in the teaching method. It is no secret that everyone learns a certain way, and no two ways are ever the same. I believe that my patience, my calm demeanor, and habit of wanting to make learning something fun rather than a job has certainly helped me in my education. I also am a big proponent of having children set goals for themselves. Setting goals makes you work harder without feeling the pressure, and I've learned that once children reach that goal they will just want to go higher.

I believe that the role of a teacher is to capture the curiosity of students by providing them with lessons and activities that require them to think outside of the box. Such activities should be hands-on and encourage the students to use their senses. I agree with John Dewey, the famous education philosopher, who believes that it is beneficial when teachers use experiential learning because it engages students and presents them with direct experience and focused reflection, which in turn, increases knowledge, develops skills, and clarifies values. I believe that when teachers provide students with hands-on activities, they have a better chance of becoming actively engaged in each lesson.

A Little Bit About Me...

While pursuing my honors degree in mathematics at the University of Chicago, I supported myself through numerous tutoring jobs. I have taught mathematics to students of all ages and abilities, including college-level calculus, set theory, logic, number theory, trigonometry, geometry, algebra, and arithmetic. I have also tutored my fellow students in various topics of physics. While conducting several research projects in pure mathematics, I spent the summers teaching public school teachers in Chicago new ways to improve their classroom instruction. I also have extensive experience in the humanities. My second degree is a BA (honors) in film theory, which is complemented by many classes in philosophy, literature, and art history.

My teaching involves incorporating many games into lesson plans to grasp my students attention, thus making the lesson fun also. Because students learn differently it is our job to teach based on their learning style, which is what I am best at doing. I love to break down information in ways that relate to my students.

A Little Bit About Me...

Teachers can be a catalyst for change and participate in the transformative learning process for both the student and the teacher. Learning is a collaborative experience and I am dedicated to a student-centered practice. My responsibility as an educator will be to act as a facilitator in the learning process and encourage students to self-reflect, critically think, and embrace the many different aspects of our community. Every child should have an equal opportunity to formal education. For me, teaching represents a tool for social change that can equip students with the knowledge, resources, and confidence to prevail over societal discrimination. Furthermore, I strive to enhance a student’s self efficacy. It is paramount for students to receive encouragement and positive appraisal so that their level of self-efficacy can increase. The educator should create a positive environment that pr ... read more

I encouraged students to find their “writers’ voice.” My goal was and still is to enable students to become more independent writers. This means that I helped my students to not only be able to report data and facts about their topics, but also interpret and explain why the topic is important to them. Furthermore, I encouraged them to connect their research to their overall evaluation or argument. In order to stress preparation for the “real world” to upperclassmen I incorporated hands-on practical projects in which students work for faculty on campus or for people in the professional writing or business field every semester.
I taught University Writing Com 101 ESL, English Composition, Advanced Writing, Business Writing, Technical Communication, and Technical Writing courses. I formed classes where students used a wide range of computer programs to create and evaluate print and on ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Although I am not the typical teacher, as in I do not have my own classroom, I believe that every child needs to be considered on an individual basis. While there are many teaching philosophies, it is difficult to hold every child to the same standard and expect the same results. In addition, as a teacher, I hope to be flexible enough in my teaching style that I can help a child learn through several modalities. If they are having difficulty learning information through one technique, I have to be prepared as to an alternative way to present the information so that they can better understand the concept I am presenting.
I began my exploration of teaching at a young age when I set up a "school" in my basement, and taught to a classroom of pretend students. Since then, I have been an aide to several students with special needs including two children on the autism spectrum. In ad ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and tutoring various groups of people! Attending the University of Michigan offered me many opportunities to tutor and teach people of all age groups. I have worked as a Teacher's Assistant in a preschool, a teacher for undergraduate students at U of M in a service learning class, and a teacher of a creative writing class for a group of adult males and females. My tutor experience includes working at a local after school tutoring program working one on one with students to focus on their individual needs. Over the past several years, I have tutored students in middle school, high school, and college in Spanish, Math, and English.
My favorite teaching experiences have been tutoring students one on one-it is truly remarkable to see the improvement students can make when they are able to work at their own pace and with individualized attention. I am committed to hel ... read more

In my twenty three years of teaching, I have learned that I have to balance the student centered approach to education with that of subject centered approach. Teachers educate students to learn, become better, enjoy the process, and more importantly, have a sense of purpose in life. To achieve this, teachers need to have the mastery of the subject matter, know the means, methods, strategies to make the subject matter relevant and interesting to students. Teachers should not be limited in helping students to be academically competent, but be able to help students become aware of their potential and use what they have and have learned in the way they lead their life and interact with people. These goals are ambitious, and therefore every educator must have that passion to want to learn, re-learn ways and means to teach effectively and efficiently.
My love for teaching began when ... read more
