The roles of the teacher and student are one in the same. I go into teaching knowing that I am not the end all shepherd of information but I am going to give all I can at being as clear, concise, informative, and objective.
My first teaching experience was in high school teaching at after school programs about basic economic principles that may apply to kids. That was my first time understanding that I have potential to assist others in grasping topics. I enjoy working with children, and believe that all kids have the ability to achieve anything. As long as their mentors can give them an extra boost to understand certain concepts their ability to accomplish their projects and earn exceptional grades are endless. My teaching style is to guide them through the learning process and to make sure they have a firm grip on their subjects when we complete our tutorial.
I started my college career at Drake University as a Mass Comunications major. I changed schools and recieved a double major in Business and Economics. My approach is to incorporate multiple learning styles (visual, auditory and so on). I also like to incorporate skills training as part of a scenario when possible. Using techniques like appropriate background music, brief stretch breaks, having the children read to Sierra, my golden retriever, are all techniques that I would like to use. Teaching children would be a joy and very rewarding. I had trouble learning to read when I was young until I attended Mrs. Bird's class. She took the time to meet with me one-on-one and taught me to read and changed my life in the process. Seeing adult learners’ eyes light up when they "get it" have been some of the best times in my career. I would love to see that light in a child's eyes too.
