I have 15 years teaching experience in the field of Special Education. I have worked with students with a wide range variety of disabilities including learning disabilities, behavior disorders, and multiple disabilities. I have current teaching certificates in the state of South Dakota and Iowa for elementary education and special education. 6 of the 15 years have been at the high school level in special education.
I use a lot of humor when working with students! I teach children to believe in themselves. I build on what they already know to build their confidence and use a lot of positive praise.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have more than 5 years experience as a substitute teacher at almost every level. I have had the opportunity to also serve as a long term substitute teacher. I also have 1 year of experience teaching at a pre-school level, 2.5 years teaching at a post-secondary level, and a semester of tutoring a middle school student. I have also taken course work in Differentiated Instruction. All of these experiences have given me the skills needed to be a successful teacher. Teaching at several levels allows me to adapt my teaching to the learning level of the student. During my time at the University of Missouri-Columbia, I earned two degrees: a BA in Philosophy and a BA in Theater. I also took many writing classes, focusing on different types of creative writing, from fiction to poetry to playwrighting. When I graduated in 2002, I spent several years in Barcelona, Spain working with college students. During that time, I tutored students in both English and Spanish, and several times taught introductory Spanish courses to students involved in summer exchange programs.
