A Little Bit About Me...

My preferred teaching style is applied learning where I encourage involvement with the lesson (ie:bringing in senses of touch, sight, smell as well as action (hikes, etc.) to capture the essence of what is being taught in addition to literature.
My initial interest was terrestrial and behavioral ecology from a course in wildlife management I attended in Kenya, East Africa, with The School for Field Studies. After Kenya, the majority of my work experience and interest shifted to marine sciences, conservation and fisheries management. I started out as an intern/naturalist onboard a whale watcher where I gave guided talks to the public. Following my masters, I was a National Marine Fisheries Observer under the NMFS/NOAA office at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, collecting data for use in management of gillnet and trawl fisheries out of Gloucester, MA. Science is one of my top subjects! I know the basics of all types of science.

I'm not very old yet but i know a lot. I've babysat my younger cousins and have had experience with many animals. ( Fish, Cats, Rabbits,Dogs, and birds.)I'm free from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. weekdays and 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. weekends and summer vacation. I can tutor, babysit, and take care of animals.I know how to cook basic things so if your looking for a babysitting tutor and will be away your child will be in good hands. My strong suite is probably science and history. I can help almost anyone improve their test grades ( as long as they are trying ) I'm not the tutor for someone struggling in Math past elementary levels though because I don't think I'd be able to help anyone entering algebra. ( I find it too complicated to explain.)I'll make learning fun for your child and will definitely have fun activities to do when we have spare time. Personally I believe nobody should work for mo ... read more

My comments on tutoring Science : I am expert at Earth Science, Anatomy, Physics, Biology.

I am passionate about teaching and spend most of my free time, creating curriculum that will excite and engage my students. I firmly believe that it is my responsibility to identify the strength of my students, as well as make them unafraid of their weaknesses. Only then, can a student and teacher begin a successful, working relationship. Student AND teacher must work at using all of our minds as much as we can. It is vital to become familiar with the way we think, especially our weak areas. Facing those and forging new pathways in the brain should be the goal of all of us.
I have taught college level design and desk top publishing classes since 2004. I have owned my own graphic studio since 1996: 509studio@gmail.com I have been teaching Math and Science to Middle School students since 2009. I presently tutor Math and Science. I have worked as a hospital lab technician.

Learning can be fun!!

When tutoring, I strive to make lessons engaging, effective and enjoyable. Specifically, I tailor lessons according to an individual student's needs and involve students in a dialogue by asking questions that provoke thought, conversation, and perhaps humor. Because facts and figures are easily looked up in the information age, I place particular emphasis on thinking and on "learning how to learn". My teaching goals for any student are threefold: 1. learn the material (well!) 2. pass the test/subject (with a comfortable margin!), and 3. enjoy it (most challenging with math!).
I love learning and teaching alike. My first teaching experience was in high school when I helped teach inner city children how to swim. Following high school, I earned a bachelor's degree in genetics at UC Berkeley, during which time I worked as a teacher's assistant for a genetics professor. While in m ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is a hands on "learn by doing" approach. I believe that kids learn when they are fully engaged by using all of their senses to learn a subject matter, not just a learn by memorizing facts approach.

A Little Bit About Me...

Personally, I prefer hands on - lab style workshops - than endless lecturing and note taking. I like to grasp the student's maturity level and aptitude and go from there. All students need individualized attention, but it is also important to have team building skills inherent in the coursework so they learn to both help themselves and others. The first thing is to teach the love of learning, the second is 'how to learn,' and the third thing is the motivation to develop mastery. Most students do not learn how to study, learn how to learn, and if their parents are not educated, they usually never learn these skills.
Straight out of college, I began substitute teaching and then tutoring individuals. I specialized in English, reading skills, history, psychology, and counseling. Now, I'm a computer tutor, a technical writer on contract, and gone through countless hours on training for ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I feel I learn as much as I teach. I value every student that I have the opportunity to work with. I have learned some students just need to overcoming their dislike of a subject. For others, a key subject building block had been built properly (as in Math) and as a result the rest of the information was sitting unstable in their minds. Finding where the support is needed and then working to solidify the skill then leads to greater confidence and greater academic achievement, Most students I work with appreciate that I am fair but firm. I want to succeed. It is a win-win.
I have recently completed my MBA at national University. I currently teach high school part time at a alternative high school. This recent experience provided me with opportunity to work with students in a one-on-one basis as well as familiarize myself with every core class offered in the high school program.
