My comments on tutoring Chess : Decent chess player

I have just finished junior year of high school and will be a senior this fall. Throughout my life I have always been especially good at math. I never fail to get an A in math every year. In 10th grade I decided to skip Pre-Calculus from Algebra 2 to AP Calculus BC when I enter 11th grade. Interestingly, I still found AP Calculus BC to be relatively easy. I am the vice president of a tutor club at La Costa Canyon High School. I teach students after school all subjects. I also tutored students outside of school. During my junior year I tutored a girl in Pre-Algebra who did not understand how graphs work. I also tutored a high-schooler in Pre-Calculus two weeks ago who had a final in two days. I came to his house and tutored him for a total of 15 hours (he needed lots of help) in those two days.

I began teaching electronics, weapons safety, CPR, missile assembly and handling, and weapons handling certification in the military. My style is one of facilitation. Facilitating requires you to encourage the student to use their own understanding as much as possible. I usually use a multiplicity of approaches to help the student better understand the big picture and keep their perspective.
