I believe that all children learn in the there own way. I believe in Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences. I think that all students have the capability to learn anything they desire as long as they are taught based on their needs.
I have a bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I was employeed at New Covenant Charter School during the 2009-2010 school year. I implemented Guided Reading using Fountas and Pinnell's theory. I also was able to implement Lucy Calkin's Units of Study for the writing program. A Little Bit About Me...

Because I enjoy and see the wonder in science and I like to show that to students. If they see a reason to want the knowledge, and see how it can expand their horizons, then they will be more open to learning. A common problem with individuals needing tutoring is that they sometimes do not think they have the "smarts" to learn the subject. My first objective is to show them they have the "stuff" to get it! Then I show them how it can be fun. This needs to be balanced with the practical need to get passing grades and complete the course work. My style is marked with a belief in the student and I encourage them and acknowledge their progress.

I have worked with children for 30 years. I understand the elementary level reading progam having subbed for teachers, teaching assistants and reading teachers for 2 years. I taught pre-reading skills to 3 year old children for 8 years in a local preschool. I am 3/4 of the way through my Teaching Assistant Certification. Over the past year, I have tried to extend my ability to share my love and appreciation of English and literature with others. As an English/Communications major, I am very knowledgable in a variety of subjects including grammar, writing composition and reading comprehension. Last year, as President of the Writers Forum, we spent several months tutoring as part of an after school program where we helped children in Baltimore write.
