Hello, all. My name is Stacie. I have over 10 years of experience in Education. I started my career at Sylvan Learning Center. I began as a Program Manager, but also have experience as the Director of Education. My job duties included giving students Diagnostic Assessments, updating each student notebook, tutoring math, reading and writing in the evenings, attending ongoing trainings, contributing to teacher trainings, and meeting with both parents and teachers at schools. Positive Experienced Tutor

While I am not a teacher by profession, I have successfully tutored a variety of leraners in a variety of subjects, primarily math, english, science. I enjoy working with people and helping them learn in ways that reach them and help them gain understanding and ultimately success. I am positive and creative as well as determined to help each student.
I am the mother of 3 children, two with college degrees and one currently in college. I was very involved throughout my children's school years, volunteering in the classroom, tutoring, etc. I have also tutored privately since my children left school. Prior to having children, I was a Systems Analyst for Servistar Corporation, and returned as a consultant for them for three years betweent my first and second children.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am an upcoming May 2006 graduate from Allegheny College, majoring in English. Given my background at a small, liberal arts college and being a former biochemistry major, I have a great understanding of language arts, math and science. I have completed a 60 page research project as well completed numerous written projects throughout my college career, that have undoubtedly strengthened my writing skills. In high school, as well as in college, I have tutored students anywhere from the middle school level to the high school level in all subjects. I have worked with students from youth development centers to rural students. More About This Tutor...

My approach to teaching is more of a "why" approach. It is more important for students to know why something is or works rather than just how. This approach works well for middle and high school students. It allows students not only to understand the ideas taught but to apply them to other areas as well. I also like to use visual aids as well as conversation. I have found that many of us vary widely in learning styles. Some are visual learners, others are audio learners, and still others are a combination. I work well one-on-one but also enjoy small groups. I look forward to working with you or your children to produce results they can be proud of.
