My comments on tutoring Reading Comprehension : Highly skilled in the use of Article of the Week as a means of demonstrating steps to achieve reading comprehension.

I have 15 years of experience teaching students at all ages and all ability levels. I have a Bachelor's Degree in English and a Master's Degree in Teaching. I am certified and highly qualified to teach English and History at the 6-12 grade level (and college). I am also certified and highly qualified to teach students with Emotional Impairments and Learning Disabilities. A great deal of my teaching career has been spent educating students in lock-down juvenile detention settings. Reading Comprehension is one of my top subjects! I am a retired teacher with Masters degree in education and an extensive background experiences in teaching reading and reading comprehension to native and non-native speakers of English with both children and adults at the college level. I also have an endorsement in teaching ESL with over 25 years experience.

A Little Bit About Me...

Dr. Segal taught us that traditional teaching methods are outmoded. Therefore I came to my own conclusion that as a teacher I would allow my students to confront me on their terms and make the learning experience as relaxed as possible. Students won't learn anything if A) the environment is unsuited to them and B) if you jump down their throat over every little thing. The important question to ask them is "why?" or "what do you think?" In regards to myself teaching is an avenue that I am considering and thus a bit of real tutoring would give me a taste of how I should go about teaching in the future.
