A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently a junior at Martinsville High School. Throughout my high school career I have taken multiple math courses such as algebra I, algebra ll, geometry, pre-calculus(currently enrolled), and statistics(currently enrolled). I also have experience in physics, chemistry(currently enrolled), biology, first year German, second year german(currently enrolled), etymology, U.S. history, and World history. I am currently ranked in the top 5 of my class with an unweighted GPA of 4.0. Math is by far my strongest subject but, I willing to work in the other subjects listed above.

My comments on tutoring Algebra : I graduated from the University of Indianapolis with a Bachelor's degree in Business and a minor in Math. I have been in the business world for 20 years as a Credit Analyst and use Algebra occasionally to perform my job, so I feel like I relate Algebra to the real world for any person needing help in Algebra.

I have no formal teaching or tutoring experience other than teaching my kids. I have managed people in the work place and have been told I am a good teacher/trainer. I am considering going back to school to become a teacher, but would like to try tutoring first. I have three kids, two have graduated high school and one is in middle school so I have seen my share of bad teachers who can only teach out of a book and don't know how to relat to their students.
My teaching style would be tailored to what each individual needs help with. I am a patient person who would teach by solving some example problems, then assigning a few similar problems for my student to solve. If he or she has trouble solving them, I will try to identify what the issue or issues are and teach them what they are doing wrong and why.

I believe in problem-based tutoring for algebra, and construct problems based on the textbook problems whenever possible. I let the student try the problem first, watching closely for any mistakes, and then teach the rules as necessary, and summarize mistakes after each set of problems. However, I can also teach all the rules beforehand if a student has been absent from class. The most important thing to me is making sure each child is able to learn in a manner in which they feel comfortable. Each person's learning style is as unique as the individual themselves.
