A Little Bit About Me...

At our first session, I ask that each student complete a short quiz to determine their learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc). Every child learns differently and I believe that discovering what works best for each student is the first step towards success. Once we figure out what his/her learning style is, I cater to this. If they learn best by reading, I'll prepare worksheets based on what they're learning; if they're hands-on learners, I'll make an activity.
My experience with tutoring began in high school, when I started assisting elementary students with homework through one of my clubs. I traveled for a year with a family and home-schooled their 3 children. The children were in 1st grade, kindergarten, and pre-school and were seriously below grade level in math and reading. In that year, I brought those children beyond grade level in reading skills and comprehension as well as math skills. I believe that teaching styles need to be flexible to the student. I have worked with a very wide variety of students, from the severely limited autistic youth to the highly gifted medical student. While approach and focus might vary for the individual or subject matter the essence remains the same.
