Love to watch students learn and succeed!

The best teachers (and tutors) are able to diagnose why a student is not understanding his schoolwork. Learning "glitches", different learning styles, and a fear of being wrong often contribute to the problem. I try to discern how the student is thinking about the work, and then I use a variety of techniques to guide him/her to understanding. I might model my own thinking, re-present a concept in an imaginative way, or use another learning style in order to capture the student's interest and encourage them to "risk" in order to learn.

My comments on tutoring Government : I have my B.A. in History and a minor in Philosophy from the University of Colorado. It would be juxtaposed if anyone claimed to understand government, but I consider myself well versed.

I am a newly grad from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs; I earned my B.A. in History and a minor in philosophy. Three teachers impacted my life not only as a result of the content of their classes but in their delivery. All three approached learning as an adventure. Even though the topics ranged from sixth grade mathematics to fluid dynamics each teacher keyed their presentation on the reception of the students. If the first presentation didn’t get the topic across an alternative presentation was made, often in a humorous vein. Students were never allowed to feel inadequate. Many of the students I trained were sent by their employers. So often, the student’s frame of mind wasn’t the most open to the learning experience.
