Listening and watching how people learn, what they need to know and formulate the best way to establish a program to achieve their goals. Each individual possesses their way of learning that may be derived from their environment, culture, family or a combination. Whenever possible I try to use diverse medias to experience topics from various views stressing constant feedback to assure comprehension is taking place. Helping individuals advance to the next step by learning is my passion. My mantra is Inquire, Inspire, Educate.

My goal is to help your child achieve success. I explain real-life applications of the subject (i.e., metric system--repair of foreign cars.) I encourage questions and dialogue. I use praise when warranted but am firm on deadlines and honesty. Aware of attention span, I take appropriate breaks or switch to another subject. I remind him to read and follow directions and to check his work over before he hands it in. I believe that in this fast-paced technical age your child needs the best chance possible to compete successfully. I have found that even with one exposure, a good educator can have a huge positive impact upon a student's confidence and comprehension. It is very gratifying to both student and teacher when this occurs.

A Little Bit About Me...

Because I enjoy and see the wonder in science and I like to show that to students. If they see a reason to want the knowledge, and see how it can expand their horizons, then they will be more open to learning. A common problem with individuals needing tutoring is that they sometimes do not think they have the "smarts" to learn the subject. My first objective is to show them they have the "stuff" to get it! Then I show them how it can be fun. This needs to be balanced with the practical need to get passing grades and complete the course work. My style is marked with a belief in the student and I encourage them and acknowledge their progress.

Throughout my teaching career, I have become accomplished in creating efficient lessons that reach diverse learners and make relevant connections to the world beyond the classroom. I am proficient in the areas of British and American Literature and have designed innovative units based around such classics as The Scarlet Letter and Of Mice and Men. Sine high school, I have worked with children in BOCES. However, I started college later in life, after children and marriage. I wanted to provide my children with an education that I couldn't afford since I knew nothing of grants in 1974. I started with my AA and did not stop until I achieved my MS. My education has taught me discipline, research, study habits, and critical thinking skills. I have tutored students K-12; in Language Arts, Reading, Literature, English, Parenting, Nutrition, Careers, and electives for 11 years. Each individual student has taught me something new.
My teaching style is to discovery how each child learns, whether it is visual, audio, movies, written, tactile, CD's, adaptive technology, and re-learning. I want my students to have success and become life-long learners while providing them with the tools that help them reach their potential. Learning ... read more

I graduated Cum Laude from Manhattan College with a double major in Psychology and Communications. In addition to studying for two majors, I was also a Division 1 athlete and held 2 jobs. Seeing as I was very busy with extracirricular activities, I believe that my graduating with honors was truly a testament to how hard I worked. Since college, I have worked in two jobs that have really tested my gramatical, reading, editing and speaking skills. I tutored all types of students while in college and can't wait for the opportunity to tutor again. When I commit to a job, I follow through with 110% of my time and energy.

A Little Bit About Me...

I do not believe in standardized testing. Each child has the capability of learning, but not all children have the ability to take tests, for whatever reason. I tend to "test" by playing games, such as Jeopardy, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, etc...and have the questions be cumulative in nature, not just on the part that we are learning. This makes the kids have to learn and absorb the information, and I was told by some students that they like the way I do it. With football, it's basically the same way. I myself have learned to become more patient, more understanding, and a better listener. I have discovered that the people tend to underestimate kids, and if they really want to learn, they will.

I understand that children have various learning styles and work with them to identify ways that they learn best. I love teaching and working with all children. Patient and caring, I like to utilize learning through play with younger children. I want to make a difference in children's lives and help them grow confidently in today's society.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate from the State University of New York at Albany, I am driven to achieve the highest level of excellence in education especially in the following generations. I have received a BA in Chemistry and Pre-Med. These degrees have enabled me to gain an understanding in many areas of science, math, and english. In addition, I have learned extensive health and grammatical skills due to writing research papers and laboratory reports, along with essays in many various areas of study. During the last three years I have tutored students in English, Mathematics, and Science.
The best teaching style in my opinion, explains how to research, plan and write essays, gives students time to practice these skills in class, and ensures students get feedback on how well they have done on each sub-skill. Students learn skills by using them in a realistic, subject-specific context, and in a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My goal with every child is to provide an educational experience tailored to her or him, specifically. I have mastered diagnostic techniques that will determine a child's needs in terms of learning-style, ability-level, and comfort-zone. In my experience, a constructivist approach, where the student is motivated to take control of her or his learning works best in that it provides children with the tools and confidence to remember and use the material. Children have a positive learning experience when they are provided a safe learning environment, tools with which to work, and space to fit new information into their schema of stored knowledge.
As an educator, I have had the pleasure of working with urban, rural, foreign, and special-needs students. After gaining experience and education in three major regions of this country, I feel well-prepared to teach and tutor students of all ... read more

I believe that every student has his or her own way of learning and therefore, I strive to get to know my students on a personal level so that I can help build upon their strengths and work with them to improve and not be intimidated by their weaknesses. I enjoy relating popular culture (music, movies, television) into writing assignments and SAT preparation. I believe that every student deserves to be heard and empowered in order to grow academically and personally. I have worked for the past six summers with teenagers in a creative writing outdoor workshop, and I've learned a great deal from this experience, specifically that teenagers have a lot of talent.
