A Little Bit About Me...

As an education major at Western Michigan University I spent a lot of time working with students of various cognitive levels. Starting college out as an Accounting major I have spent a lot of time taking numerous business courses that have enabled me to teach business classes effectively. Upon finishing my pre-internship, and internship I am comfident in my ability to connect and teach many different students.
I have always enjoyed working with people. Knowing that all people have the capacity to learn, I believe that it is only a matter of finding a way to for the student to be able to relate to the content material. I worked as a substitute teacher for a charter high school in St. Louis, MO directly out of undergrad. I taught most subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Algebra, History and Language Arts. I feel comfortable in my ability to teach most subjects and have no issue working in difficult classrooms as I have grown accustomed to such environments working in St. Louis.
Being no stranger to difficult classroom settings, I understand that ideal teaching conditions rarely exist. I enjoy to challenge of encouraging more distracted students to learn, and possess the compassion and patience to work with most students. Students that I have tutored/mentored have become very successful in their life after graduation from H.S./College. I know that if a child can read, and understand what they read, they can be successful in life. That is my first priorty in the education of a student.
During the past 5 years I have been a substitute teacher for Kentwood Public Schools and Excel Charter School in both elementary and high school classes. This experience has given me insight into what I feel is necessary for students to prepare for the future i.e college, skilled labor, technology etc. I have administered tests to evaluate pupil progress and issue reports to parents to discuss student progress and any problems that may exist.
