I have been a multi-disciplinary science and mathematics tutor for over 20 years. I have tutored jr high, high school, college, university, and graduate students in mathematics, biology, chemistry, and physics. I have tutored in a one-on-one, drop-in, and group tutoring capacity. As the school I taught at was private, the students were very competitive. I found my lectures and class activities reached 90% of the students. The remaining 10% were the students I especially loved to instruct. These students had difficulty learning the subject in a traditional fashion, so I was forced to explain the subject from a different angle. My teaching style would be that of Guided Discovery. This is a highly interactive style which leads the student to uncover the answer themselves as opposed to the teacher simply reciting the answer to them. Guided Discovery requires the student to learn by doing therefore developing necessary problem solving and deductive skills that will make them better learners and thinkers both now and in the future. I implement this style by asking leading questions, giving examples, making analagies and asking the student what they think or ask them to explain how they came upon a certain conclusion.
