I'm most interested in tutoring on the high-school or college level, but I do have experience teaching young children as well. I believe that the biggest impediment to learning a subject is anxiety, often from a bad classroom experience, so my approach focuses on beginning at the learner's level and making sure to check every concept before moving on to the next one. This works. I offer a patient, learner-focused teaching style that is able to use a broad variety of examples and experience from everyday life and my experience to illustrate points. I have earned two bachelor degrees, one in Information Systems and Business Processes and the other in Communications and Media. I believe that education is very important and am now continuing my education, I plan to receive my Masters in Higher Education in May 2012. I have worked as a counselor at a young female enrichment program for the last two years, and enjoyed tutoring in Math, Science, Digital Arts and would love to tutor in other subjects if needed.
I have worked at summer camps for children ages 8-16 throughout my entire life, and love making a difference in a child's life. I am very patient and have a positive attitude. What I have discovered about myself is that I learn differently from other people. I am the kind of person who prefers to set aside that assembly instruction manual and put together that Christmas toy by laying out the pieces in an orderly fashion. There is so much pleasure in problem solving. I learn by asking myself questions. I have little patience for mundane drills and memorization if they can be avoided. Each child is different. It is meaningless to say that a child is intelligent. There are many kinds of intelligences. Some children are more intelligent in memorization. Others are intelligent in solving problems. It is best to discover the child's strengths and weaknesses and adapt a program to each and every child.
