Literature is one of my top subjects!

I am very patient. I will do whatever it takes to ensure that my clients are comfortable with me. Therefore, my teaching style really depends on the client. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style exhibits a very individualized, hands-on approach. Even in a classroom with 20-30 students, I attempt to understand individual learning styles and work with students on an individual basis when possible. As a tutor, my approach is not to use a standard approach to which I expect the student to adhere. I feel it is my responsibility to understand how the student learns and comes to understand. Once I can get a feel for this, I use this individualized approach to make the student feel comfortable and confident that they can accomplish the task they are trying to complete.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught classes at the college level since 2004. These include U.S. History surveys, the Civil War, African-American History, and others. I have worked mostly with teenagers in these classes. A Little Bit About Me...

I received a bachelors degree in both history and sociology which gave me the credentials to teach Sociology 101 classes at the college level while attaining my masters degree, which I then used to teach as an instructor for nine months at two separate colleges. I am finishing up my second masters degree, and want nothing more than to share the knowledge I have learned with others.
I am an active teacher, especially when allowed to create my own curriculum. I love to incorporate lectures with powerpoints, videos with discussions, and book readings with field trips. I think the best way to get young people involved in learning is to keep their minds thinking and never reach the point of predictability. I love teaching middle and high school level students. I also enjoy working with adult English language learners. I believe to be successful in teaching, a teacher has to keep an open mind, because each student is different and his/her learning strategy is different. I believe collaborative method works best for students, because students will have to opportunity to learn from their peers in the classroom. Before beginning a lesson, a teacher has to find out the level of his/her student. Once the teacher is aware of the weakness and strength of her/his students, she/he can organize the group in the classroom. A Little Bit About Me...

Since January 2008, I have had the opportunity of tutoring at risk 9th, 10th, and 11th graders at Leeds High School's AVID (Achievement Via Individual Determination). I attempt to teach them critical thinking skills, reading skills, as well as studying skills. I have worked with the AVID program while I completed my Masters Program.
I love working with adolescents. I believe with all of my heart that each teen has the ability to accomplish great things with the proper motivation.
