A Little Bit About Me...

I have a real passion for working with youth and their families and believe that it is a calling that can change lives. I enjoy working in collaboration with students. As a teacher, I see the student/teacher relationship as a partnership bound by communication and compassion. A teacher must listen to his/her students and try to understand the world from the student's point of view. From this foundation, a teacher is then able to present or teach material in the way a student is apt to understand it. Students learn best by doing, and I am committed to providing hands on learning experiences for my students. I know that all students can learn and I am dedicated to making that happen.
I have worked with youth all my life. I managed youth services at a library and was responsible for all programming and special events for youth of all ages as well as programs for struggling, beginning ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that all students are worth my time, my ears, my voice, and my compassion. I believe that all students cc an learn, all students want to learn, all students can have fun with learning, and all students have something to teach me. I believe that children should be looked at as individuals with different interests, learning styles, and needs. I believe children learn best with a connection to prior knowledge. I believe that children learn from prior experience and hands on opportunities.
As a 2010 graduate of IUPUI, my student teaching experience has allowed me to work with a diverse group of individuals. For my first student teaching experience, I was immersed in an English as a second language setting. At my second student teaching experience, I was involved in an inquiry based, hands-on leaning curriculum that differentiated instruction to meet the needs of every c ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

When I tutor, I first strive to make the session interesting and fun. Before beginning, I would strive to identify which types of learning the student excels in and focus on them. I also make sure to change the learning styles and activities often to avoid students from becoming tired of an exercise.

More About This Tutor...

I believe in problem-based tutoring for algebra, and construct problems based on the textbook problems whenever possible. I let the student try the problem first, watching closely for any mistakes, and then teach the rules as necessary, and summarize mistakes after each set of problems. However, I can also teach all the rules beforehand if a student has been absent from class. For chemistry, I reviewed class notes with students and then explained the fundamentals whenever there was a question, and then did practice problems with the students.
I have two years of tutoring experience in college chemistry with the University Learning Center at Penn State. I tutored over twenty students in college chemistry. I am currently tutoring and mentoring a student in High School algerbra and chemistry for free.

After all these years, I still love teaching children! Every child has the potential to learn. However, it is the duty of the teacher to discover the child's maximum potential. I am consistent, fair, and firm. While I am firm, I do still believe that children have a greater chance of succeeding if they are comfortable in their environment. I teach the "whole child" in that we discover new things about each other as we work to achieve a goal. I hope to make a difference in each child with whom I work with.
Over the course of my professional career, I have spent 22 of my 25 years as a 4th grade teacher. This was a goal of time since childhood, having been inspired by my own 4th grade teacher. I still love this age and remain inspired by my own students. I have, over the years, received training through my full time employer to keep me up to date of the ever changing technique ... read more

As a first generation immigrant, I have sharply experienced just how important proper communication skills are. Language, spoken and written are one of the most important parts of building those skills for young people, for success in both carreer and social life. I strongly believe that my own experience with constant learning and improving my language abilities helps me in better understanding of the learning process of others. Multiple personality assesments as well as my self-evaluation state me as a leader type indiavidual, competitive, influential, however also supportive and attentive as well. As a non paid experience I have been the helping hand for my friends struggling with their paper, proof reading and restructuring their writting during both highschool and college.
