My comments on tutoring Literature : My master's degree in English included coursework on literature; I have an M.A. from George Mason and a B.A. from the University of Virginia. Both English programs emphasized literary content.

My instructional experience includes over 230 credit hours of composition and language arts instruction, including creative writing, literary analysis and Shakespeare. However, most of the instruction has been focused on composition. I developed a bachelor level English course for Pearson Education, working as a writer on a team of three; the course was deployed nationally at over 100 campuses.

The chance to tutor peers in high school was the initial spark towards considering education as a career. My strength lies in my ability to motivate my students. One of my former assistant principals said that I could get my kids to do anything for me. I motivated them by making learning fun. I have never been one who liked worksheets, but I loved hands on experience. My students did too. Once when we were studying prepositions, and the kids were having a hard time understanding them, I taped clouds on the wall in the hall way. I told them to complete the statement with a preposition: “---the cloud.” Each student wrote a preposition and put it on the cloud in the hallway. I believed in learning by doing—I still do.
