I have five children of my own and spend many hours helping them with school work. I have found that patience and repetition in many cases are very good paths to success. I do not believe in becoming frustrated with children that do not understand as it only raises their frustration level as well. I also think that using real world examples while teaching is key to helping them understand. I am able to bring these examples to the table having many years of experience working outside of a teaching environment with real projects.
I have a few years experience teaching in the Air Force. I also have an extensive background in engineering, statistics and math in general. I have always looked at teaching as a learning process for which the objective is not only learning for students but also learning for the teacher. A great teacher is one helps the students see how these theories can be at least partially verified through life experience. I have often felt that the ultimate purpose of education should not be a mere accumulation of knowledge. Therefore, as a teacher, I believe my job has several aspects: teach students how to think instead of what to think. teach students how to process and digest as opposed to memorize, store, and display information.

A Little Bit About Me...

I work with students very well. I make sure that they are able to connect with me, and enjoy the process of learning. It's important to like what you are studying, so that you can get the most out of it. I feel as though it is necessary for them to enjoy the setting they are in, and I do my best to accommodate them. Learning should not be something that students do not look forward to, contrary; they should be excited to learn something new. I make sure that this is one of my goals, so that they can get the ultimate satisfaction and have that desire to solve the problems and answer the questions on their own. I don't just consider it tutoring, I consider it mentoring.
Due to my desire to increase my knowledge, I graduated a year early from my university with a BA in Psychology, and a minor in Political Science. I am currently in Graduate School, majoring in Community Counseling. Th ... read more

I love teaching and working with all children. I am patient, easy going, and considerate. I am a firm believer in teaching through discovery and in providing a constructive approach to learning. I try to build a child's self-esteem by showing the child that they know more than they think they know.
