Drawing is one of my top subjects! Portrait drawing, Animals

I enjoy working with kids of all ages. I'm very patient and understanding no matter what level of drawing the student is on. I start with the very basics and go up from there.
I've been drawing all my life and I started portrait drawing and realism drawings when I was 14. I took honors/AP art classes all through High School. Won various awards at art contests with my school. I have a large portfolio with many types of mediums used. I'm particularly good with charcoal and graphite and ebony pencil. I've been hired for freelance jobs in the past and I'm willing to give references.

Drawing is one of my top subjects!

My teaching is style is very interesting. I believe that knowing other artists work is important in the development of your style. I like to give the artist a chance to do what they're comfortable with and then make them stop completely and try something new. For example I used to only draw portraits in value and I would never paint, simply because I believed I sucked at painting. Well, I stopped my value portraiture and would just start to paint faces with no guidance at all. One day a painting could almost look like the person and I would have to tell you who it was for you to know, and some days you wouldn't be able to tell it was a person. Then, one day something just clicked on my brain and I painted an actual person that actually looked like them. Being a young artist I think I have a better grasp on the development of artistry, and would make a great fit as a tutor.

Drawing is one of my top subjects! I am a fine artist with extremely strong drawing skills: charcoal, graphite, pastel and colored pencil work. My work has been exhibited in juried shows and sold in galleries. I was classically trained as a child and teenager. I also have a BFA in fine art.

I'm comfortable with all ages and levels of students. My teaching style is relaxed, open, encouraging and I allow students to experiment. I also have knowledge of art history and I'm open to many different ways of appreciating art. I have a background in marketing and writing for advertising and also journalism.
I have studied classical art from the age of six to present. My work is varied, and although I have roots in classical techniques, I also relate to and create abstract styles. My work is represented in galleries, selected in juried shows and I have twice been accepted to exhibit and sell my work at the Bath House Cultural Center in Dallas and The TVAA Gallery in the downtown Dallas Arts District. I have been a freelanced graphic designer for many years now. I have a vast knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite. I know a thing, or two about illustrating. A Little Bit About Me...

Creativity is defined as the tendency to generate or recognize ideas, alternatives, or possibilities that may be useful in solving problems, communicating with others, and entertaining ourselves and others. ."creative" refers to novel products of value, as in "The airplane was a creative invention." "Creative" also refers to the person who produces the work, as in, ?Picasso was creative." "Creativity," then refers both to the capacity to produce such works, as in "How can we foster our employees' creativity?" and to the activity of generating such products, as in "Creativity requires hard work." (page 4) All who study creativity agree that for something to be creative, it is not enough for it to be novel: it must have value, or be appropriate to the cognitive demands of the situation.

A Little Bit About Me...

Due to my desire to increase my knowledge, I graduated a year early from my university with a BA in Psychology, and a minor in Political Science. I am currently in Graduate School, majoring in Community Counseling. This is because I have a great desire to work with people, and help them out. I spent two years as an AVID tutor, working in all subjects but specifically Psychology, History, Government and Economics, Math, and English.
I work with students very well. I make sure that they are able to connect with me, and enjoy the process of learning. It's important to like what you are studying, so that you can get the most out of it. I feel as though it is necessary for them to enjoy the setting they are in, and I do my best to accommodate them. Learning should not be something that students do not look forward to, contrary; they should be excited to learn something new. I make sure ... read more
