I have earned both an AS in Science and Mathematics as well as completed all requirements for my BA in business administration with a concentration in accounting. I have volunteered at an elementary school tutoring while I was in high school. I have also tutored individuals in college level material on a private basis for compensation. My primary strength is mathematics although I am quite skilled in English as well.
I have always possessed a love of helping others to learn. It brings me great joy to witness when an individual grasps a concept which they have been having difficulty with. I tend to use a demonstrator style of teaching by first working through a problem slowly while asking the student questions to ensure that they understand what I am doing. I believe students will always be frustrated till they learn the material and if you make it interesting and related to them personally it tends to elivate the frustration and to feel more comfortable with the material. I am presently looking at obtaining my teaching certificate to teach elementary school at one point and time. My father's family is spanish so I speak a some. I am not fully fluent.
I have always had an interest in teaching. I graduated from college with my AA while working with the University of Michigan Department of Hospital Finance Training. I worked in the university's Writing Center as a consultant while also teaching a first-year composition course, and went on, after earning my degree, to teach college writing full time. At the Writing Center, I worked one-on-one with students to improve papers assigned for subjects as diverse as Biology, Economics, and Dancing. I began working as an English teacher 6 years ago, when I was living in Japan. I had originally moved to Japan to work as a designer, but after a year I started teaching English, which is something I'd always wanted to do. Over the following 4 years I worked at 4 different kindergartens, all of which were affiliated with Sunnyside International (my employer). I also taught various afterschool elementary classes and tutored students of different ages, from ages 5-adult.
