A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Wake Forest in 2008, double-majoring in Mathematics and Physics. I also took some courses in the Education Department, and substitute taught for public high schools and middle schools in Winston-Salem, NC and Metairie, LA. I have worked in tutoring programs for elementary school children approximately twice a week for a total of twelve months. I have recently learned HTML, PHP, and Javascript programming languages, and am the designer and programmer for the Facebook application Harry Potter House Sort.
I think educators must take into account the different ways in which students learn. For instance, I've noticed that math students may have difficulty adding and subtracting fractions, but have no trouble whatsoever when I ask about dimes and quarters. The first thing I do with any new student is identify his or her learning style so that I may incorporate those specific strategies into my lesson for an effective and personalized learning experience. My lessons are very interactive, and a main aspect is to nurture critical thinking. After setting up a situation, I will pose problems for the student to solve.
