My comments on tutoring Reading : Barton Reading and Spelling system for Dyslexia

There is so much joy in success, no matter how small or how hard to obtain. It is always to be celebrated!!!!
I have worked in two Arkansas public schools in the area of Special Education for the last 20 years. For over half of my career I have been employed as a special education designee/ consultant. I have also completed the Barton Reading and Spelling System training and work with several students. I am in love with how fast this system works to close gaps. I currently am employed as a special education designee where I tutor a few students in Barton, teach and supervise the special education teachers and work on due process compliance. If you want something bad enough, you must fight for it.

I am patient but firm. If a student isn't willing to put in a 100% effort then I will not waste my time. I have always gotten exemplary grades from anyone I've tutored. I teach each student differently, some are more visual, or auditory, or hands-on, and I adjust my methods to better benefit my students. Bottom line: I will work hard for you, and I expect you to work hard for you too.
I have always written, and I have always loved doing it. The same goes for reading. I have tutored various class mates through college, and have also worked at a children's enrichment center (I am currently employed there) where I teach basic reading and writing. I am also currently editing a friends novel. My teaching style is a simple one: I use kindness with firmness and always attach a fun and tactile activity to make the learning memorable. My own learning style is more visual and hands-on, but I know that some children can learn by repetition and memorization, and if that's what works, then I'll adjust to fit that particular child's needs.
