I have taught a few weapons classes and use of force classes as a security forces member in the Air Force. However, I have never taught classes on a regular basis.
As a supervisor and trainer in the military, it was my responsibility to train the new individuals that came into the job. There was a lot of studying material that I constantly had to sit down and go over with them. We made flashcards, took notes, made up quizzes, did verbal question and answers, etc. I actually used to tutor math in High School when I was in an advanced Calculus class and have helped many friends with their college math. As an educator in math and science, subjects viewed by many students as “hard” or “boring,” I strongly believe that these fields need not be viewed this way. Teachers who have a strong background in math and science, such as myself, can more easily relate class work to everyday life and career prospects, making the subject more relevant and interesting. I believe that when teaching any subject, one must start with a clear set of objectives and goals which are to be realized by the end of the teaching session.
