I believe that students learn best in an environment that promotes encouragement and relational interaction with their tutors. While I believe in creating a stress free, fun environment, I believe in helping students set their own rigorous goals. I am skilled at helping students create plans that help them achieve the goals they have in their education. My style could be described as a combination of structured organization and stress free fun.
I have been teaching piano and bass guitar to students for almost 10 years. I am a 4.0 student who has mastered the ability to study efficiently. In 2010, I was awarded a teaching assistantship at the University of New Mexico where I was asked to teach 2 undergraduate classes in communication. However, I rejected this position as I accepted a Master's program at a different University, but underwent the training required for TA's at UNM.

Friendly, Highly Qualified, 20+ yrs, M.Ed, Gr. 6-12

I have 20+ years as a highly qualified educator and I still have tons of energy and passion for teaching. I'm friendly, sometimes a little goofy, non-judgmental, and I have a special place in my heart for young folks who struggle in school. There are 3 options for services: (1) A multi-session plan based on the specific academic needs of the student (2) Help with day-to-day school work involving anything related to Language Arts; reading, research, writing, etc.(3) A hybrid of the two which would include a multi-session plan and on-demand homework help.
Above all, I make sure what we're learning is relevant to the student and is based off their interests-- not random and isolated. What sticks is what they care about and find interesting.

I would LOVE to help your child reach their potential!

I am structured yet kind. Kids need to feel a connection to their teacher in order to give 100%. I work a great deal on building community in my classroom and allowing kids to appreciate the diversity among themselves. Not all kids are going to excel in all areas. They need to value what they are really good at and share that with their peers. This also creates miniature "experts" which makes all kids feel good. Once a child feels successful; in one area it encourages them to tackle something they are less comfortable with.
I have worked as an elementary school teacher for 7 years. I have been fortunate enough to teach grades 1, 2, 3, and 4. In my experience I have found that children build confidence through small successes. My philosophy is to set maintainable goals allowing students to meet them frequently building confidence and motivation.

I vary my style from student to student because I understand each student is unique and may require a slightly different approach.
I have worked as an English tutor at Central New Mexico Community College for the past seven years. A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching should be interactive; learners need a chance to do activities so they can practice and they need to demonstrate what they have learned.
As a basic literacy tutor and tutor trainer for over 20 years, I have a passion for helping people learn to read and write well. My background as a technical writer has given me a good grasp of grammar and writing structure. I have worked with a variety of people, ranging from children in the first grade to PhD subject matter experts. Each person requires a unique approach and a recognition of their individuality.

More About This Tutor...

Self professed perfectionist and perpetual learner. Several leadership positions involving teaching children and managing groups. In college I focused on writing and editing with a creative outlet involving poetry and some acting. I am now enrolled as a Biology major, finding that my study skills I developed as a writing student are very helpful in a field that is fundamentally different. I feel inspired to help others and want to share my abilities in a positive and fulfilling way for all parties involved.
In order to master any thing, one must learn, one must do, and one must teach.

Math, Science & Microsoft Excel tutor

I have two technical-college degrees, I worked my way through both of them being a math tutor, and have used math and science in some way in every job I've ever held. As for my "teaching style", as everyone knows, it helps enormously just to have another person to work with, ask questions of, and generally talk things through. And since Im not a professional teacher, Im mostly a working tech--maybe I can help you see the connections between the abstract science & math the way its taught in school, and how that knowledge actually applies in the workplace (and in life.)
On-the-job math is almost always done using Microsoft Excel, so I can show you how to do almost anything on a spreadsheet. Ive been a TV broadcast engineer, and taught video production in a public high school. Ive been an avionics technician, a solar PV installer & designer, and a thermal analyst for solar buildings. ... read more

Accomplished writer and editor here to help!

Patient and nurturing. I understand how it feels to be a slow learner.
I was an English major and worked at the University of New Mexico for seven years. In that time, I was a mentor/tutor for the College Enrichment Program, editor for the Blue Mesa Review, teacher's assistant for a children's literature course, and participated in several creative writing workshops. I have a lot of experience working in an educational environment.

My comments on tutoring Journalism : I majored in Journalism, graduating summa cum laude, and my focus was in writing, studying many different styles.

I prefer a very conversational approach with my students. The style encourages mutual respect and allows me to observe more closely how the student learns. In addition, I feel learning is absorbed better when the information is couched in a story, and I believe conversation is a style of storytelling.
I have years of experience in varying forms of educations, but my most relevant is the two years (2012-2014) I lived in South Korea, teaching elementary and middle school students in English as a foreign language at a private academy. During that time period, I also tutored two adults in conversation, vocabulary, and diction. This experience led me to the decision to pursue a Masters in teaching, and until I complete that goal, I am going to keep my skills fresh with tutoring.

More About This Tutor...

Students need to be equipped with the research skills and ability to fetter out information from a number of different sources. The information must be timely, accurate, credible, relevant, etc. The days of going to a library and pulling volumes of texts to research substantive information has changed. Now, most students understand what a Boolean search is. However, many don’t know much beyond the internet. This is both an imperative skill as a successful student, and as a potential graduate seeking employment.
During the years I have been an instructor and tutor, I have contributed to my students’ confidence and motivation through my interactive and engaging lessons on becoming a successful student. I conduct my lessons with high energy, engaging students to participate and contribute to the discussion. I balance excellent student interaction with effective classroom management. ... read more
