Solve ALL your problems with a math tutor!

While completing my degree, I worked in the math department as a tutor. I often had several students with various subjects simultaneously. It was a challenge to constantly switch topics, but I apparently did it so well that I almost had a regular class that showed up every time I was on duty. Several students told me that I explained things on a level they could understand as opposed to the high-level language the professor used. I have also done private tutoring since then.
I generally work through an example while explaining. Then as the student works the problems, I instruct by asking prompting questions with decreasing frequency until the student can complete problems without any assistance.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a business professional I was continually called upon to make presentations to corporate personnel, owners, propert management personnel, and other interested parties. I made these presentations interesting and informative by inserting relative humor and everyday experiences. I was often requested back. As an instructor post-secondary education I enjoyed teaching and applying humor and every day events to the learning process. As a full-time adjunct instructor I taught accounting, business administration, creative writing, ethics, and math. For four years I had a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding experience.
I have never believed in or practiced the lecture as a form of instruction. Rather I apply a program of hands-on repetition, a "walk me through it" approach whereby the student demonstrates what has been retained and understood and where we need to apply some more t ... read more

Over the past 20+ years, I have worked with students from Pre-K through the college level. The commonality that I have found is that reading is the one thing that students need to be able to do and do well in order to be successful. Since reading is fundamental life skill, I chose to become a certified reading therapist using the Phono-Graphix Method of instruction through Read America. I have worked as a professional tutor and private instructor for the past five years and love what I do! Although my speciality is reading instruction, I also tutor elementary mathematics, social studies, science, and all levels of language arts.
My teaching style is best described as eclectic. While I am organized and focused, I vary my instructional methods to incorporate diverse activities and materials to engage and interest students. By understanding human behavior and acknowledging the many ... read more

I am recent graduate from Texas Christian University (TCU). I majored in Entrepreneurial Management, a program ranked 18th in the nation. Entrepreneurial Management has helped me understand how to more successfully and effectively communicate with people whether it is in a business setting or in a classroom environment. Throughout my college experience, I tutored many of my colleagues in various subjects including Math, Business, and Grammar.
Since childhood, I have always had a passion working with children. Coming from someone who had a tutor, I have a first-hand experience of the impact a tutor can leave on a child. I believe that every child has the capability of learning; the process to reach their potential for each child, however, is different. I am a very committed, patient and open-minded person who has a positive outlook on any situation. No matter a students’ academic si ... read more

I enjoy the wonders of discovery and assisting others with master concepts and practical logic that helps them in every aspect of their lives. Tutoring is not so simply as to aid a child in finding the answer or getting a college student to pass the examine. It is truly the disciplined approach to knowledge and truth that allows one to branch into new facets of understanding and truth. To tutor means to assist another in seeking real truth and understanding that will allow success and confidence to build.
I have a passion for language and rhetoric. Words, truth, knowledge, and exploration have marked my academic career. I studied with two colleges during my Associate years in order to obtain lessons in Japanese. I believe the true way to teach is to make a connection for each student: relate the material to something the student already knows. A more “hands-on” approach will allow the student to learn faster with greater retention. I feel that every student has the ability to learn, and that it is the teacher’s job to provide each student with the connection. In today’s age, classrooms have become over-crowded thus making it more difficult for the teacher to make that connection. It is the job of the tutor to fill in the gaps. With this theory, I try to use my experience in the work field to relate the subject matter to the student’s surroundings – hence math and science are my forte. I work well with children by making learning fun, but also have the knowledge of complex problems to provide the same environment for high school and college students.
As a child of an Air Force pilot, I have ... read more
