I try to guide the student to find a personal understanding of the concept. It is one thing to explain a point of difficulty to the student, but it is preferable for the student to be led to an intuitive understanding. It is my goal in teaching to facilitate the student in finding this type of understanding. I have gained a solid understanding of many disciplines of math and science through my study of Physics. I have honed my writing and general English skills through the writing of laboratory reports, essays, and the completion of a thesis project. While at Salisbury University, I studied Environmental Issues and firmly believe in the theory I learned that education in the beginning for everything. I have always loved learning, and as a result, I also pursued a minor in Chemistry, for the sheer love of science. Immediately after college, I spent the summer teaching riding lessons at a camp in Colorado. In the evenings, I took off my cowboy boots and spent my time acting as co-counselor in a cabin full of elementary to middle school aged girls, depending on the session. I am energetic and involved. I am a strong believer in the use of visual and other aids. I feel the best teaching can occur when it is interactive. I am highly computer literate, and regularly interject this medium. My experience is principally in marine research. In such, I have taught at three universities. Most recently I have been giving scheduled seminars for several years. I am semi-retired. My science background is mult-disciplinary. I enjoy most teaching ecology (both marine and terrestrial), geology, biology, physics, and chemistry. I have worked in this field on the west coast for twenty years, and about fifteen on the east coast. My principal fields of work have been geo-physics, and population ecology.
