My comments on tutoring Geography : Tutor experience

I have fourteen years of teaching experience and love working with children. I am able to establish quick a quick teacher student relationship. I am able also to quickly see strengths and weaknesses in students. I am curently substituting for the Winston-Salem Forsyth County school system. I prefer elementary students but will also tutor college students. I have found both helped all ages of students improve their grades in many subjects.

From French to Art, I'm here to make you smart.

While in university I studied art history, studio art, and international relations. I was a teaching assistant for many art history classes, including renaissance, modern, and post modern art. I also sturdied international relations in university, with an emphasis on the Middle East and Europe, particularly Cold War and terrorism. I have almost 11 years of experience with children and adolescents who have disabilities, including autism, down syndrome, aspergers, and behavioral challenges. A Little Bit About Me...

I am patient but firm. In order to be a success in the business world, one must be able to write and speak the English language correctly. If the student knows English, everything else in general business can be taught. Thus, in a tutoring environment, I try to make learning fun and make a game out of speaking and writing proper English. I believe that every child can learn even those that are handicapped. My mother was a specialist in teaching trainable children and got them jobs after graduation. Being around children with IQ's around 60 gave me special insight and understanding.
I have 35 years experience in Bell System Management retiring as Operations Manager of Outstate Georgia. Most of this time was used managing, mentoring and teaching others in day to day operations and in class room settings. A Little Bit About Me...

As seen from above, I have valid tutoring experience in both middle grades and HS. I was in the student teaching program at Wake Forest and upon graduation, I was a substitute teacher in the Winston-Salem, Forsyth County School system. I also participated in the Junior Achievement program in the Piedmont NC region for over 5 years. I am currently a tutor with the "No Child Left Behind Program."
I am a disciplinarian. I have an excellent ability to gain a students attention, keep it and the results of my students have been well above average. I have a knack to bring into the classroom, outside events (latest ball games, Olympics, etc.) to establish a 'bond' between myself and the student. This allows me to gain their confidence as well as not create a bored atmosphere. I find this very important, especially with the more difficult students.

I have always thought of myself as a progressive teacher. I always thought children could learn to do anything they were asked to do. I always loved learning and felt it was my obligation to instill the same in all my students, no matter what age. I feel all students are influenced by the use of art and music to learn and that is what I use. I know I can make a ... read more

My previous tutoring experiences have shown me that children/young-adults learn and retain information through different processes. For example, some students learn best by simply listening to a lecture while other students require visual aids and the compartmentalization of subjects/ideas. Consequently, I approach my tutoring sessions by first identifying the needs of the child and by secondly finding creative ways to cater to those needs. Furthermore, in the hopes of bolstering the students’ confidence in their own abilities, I like to encourage discussion, thinking out loud and asking questions. It is my goal to have a student’s full comprehension for the subject at hand by the end of each tutoring session.

I love working with children and had around 9 different children for a two year period while working at the mental health agency. They ranged from 3 years old to 16 years old. I am patient when teaching new subjects and very empathetic to different situations and needs. I have always worked to do the best and be the best and make a positive impact along the way. I believe with a positive mentality and hard work the possibilities are unlimited and through helping guide individuals with subjects they struggle and promoting good ethics they too can follow this mentality.
I graduated high school in 2003 as the valedictorian of my class. I maintained my high level of academics in college but didn't know what I wanted to do for a career. I enjoy working with children & adults alike. I firmly believe there is nothing a student can not master, as long as the teacher/tutor is willing to adapt to how that student learns. I am a life-long student & have mastered how to convey information differently to ensure everyone understands. I am patient, personable & encouraging; ensuring that each student not only reaches their academic potential, but gains self-confidence in their academic abilities. I possess what I like to call the NASA mentality, "Failure is NOT an option, we WILL find a way to make all the pieces come together for every student in every subject." Learning is a journey & I believe it is a privilege to be the one to open that gift for others.
As an advocate of learning, I continually pursue education. I believe you must remain current in your subjects of expertise. I hold a Masters in Business Administratio ... read more

My teaching style is flexible. Since I work with children that have special needs (specifically Autsim), I have to be creative in my approach and adapt to the instructional needs of the student. For example, many of my students require direct and explicit instruction; however, some of the students are nonverbal and artistic and require a more constructive approach.
Prior to graduating May 8, 2010, I tutored students in grades K-12 for 2 years at an after school tutoring program called, Operation Homework. From this experience, I was able to initiate and Direct an educational summer camp called, 3-steps Ahead Summer Enrichment Camp. In this program, we aided students to perform on or above grade level in reading, writing and math. Also, prior to graduating I received a teaching position which enabled me to receive more hands-on training. My greatest strength is in teaching readi ... read more
