I have found through my 6 years of teaching students, that flexibility is a key component. Explaining a difficult concept to a student should be customized to each individual students' needs. Chemistry is one of my top subjects! I am applying to medical school in the summer of 2013, so I have had vast experience with many fields of chemistry. In college I have taken General Chemistry 1 and 2 with lab, Biochemistry, and Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 with lab. I also took and did well on the MCAT and therefore spent time studying for the Physical Sciences (which includes Chemistry) section of the test.

I love helping people. I believe that no one is stupid just some people are better in some areas than other people. I enjoy helping people learn because I love seeing the "light bulb click on above their head" when they finally grasp a concept. Teaching style varies with the subject. For math, I derive how to arrive at the answer without memorizing a process. Once the student has grasped a concept, I provide examples of varying 'difficulty' to show how to use the concept (the student should be able to apply it regardless of the problem’s complexity). With respect to science, visuals are key. Biology can be taught using models/diagrams representing various systems. Chemistry, though, requires a more hands-on approach. Teachers should guide students to the answers, allowing students to learn the most by creating their own diagrams/models. Teaching children takes patience and creativity. Each child is different in their attention span and interests. Making each subject important and interesting is one place to start. It is crucial to never let a child give up, and not to give up on them yourself. My goal in teaching is to determine which way the child learns, for example a visual learning may need to draw out spelling words, where an audible learner needs to recite them.
